I had been using HORSE as my opening for a long time now, but now that it was the word for March 7, I had to pick a new word. Since I liked the letters that HORSE provided for me, I've decided to go with SHORE from now on. (I checked, and it hasn't been used yet.)

If you were playing the Canadian version of Wordle you might have opted to go with HOSER.

Similar to Ben, I had been using ALTER until it was used. For a little while I used LATER, using the same letters but for some reason my scores were getting worse so I switched to ALERT, also same letters, and that feels better.

I'm sure someone has taken the time to analyze which letters have come up most frequently to date in Wordle and used those
results to fashion a starting word containing those letters. Such research might provide only a marginal advantage compared
to any other (logical) starting point, but someone gotta be obsessed enough to be trying it.

WordleBot seems to prefer SLATE as a starting word. But since it's already been used, that may no longer be the best choice if you want a chance at a hole-in-one.

I use MODEL. It hasn't been the word since I've started playing for 253 games. Did get my percentage up to 94 and on a 52-game streak!

You're not likely to score a "one" with MODEL:

i imagine there's a decent games theory project available that evaluates the best first-word strategy.

as i've said before, i like to get me some uncommon letters out of the way first. the theory being that there are a lot fewer words using a P than an D, so if i get a hit on that letter, i've culled my list of possible solutions all that much more.

I start with STARE. Which has been working for me and has not yet come up as an answer. I will likely keep using it until I get my ace.

My starting word is usually SALET ( Ken Jennings said along time ago when Wordle became popular that he thought it was a great starting word , and I've mostly stuck with it)

I didn't either, and it turns out I missed my hole-in-one chance.

My streak reset too often by missing days but I shot a 3 today.

Yeeesh…

I think I hit every hazard on the course today. Tall grass, sand, water. You name it. Pulled it out in the end though.

Of course, after whiffing on the first word, I decided against using my typical second word, which likely woulda gotten me a lot closer to the pin.

I'm at Travis Blankenhorn during his first tenure with the team (73 for those who can't remember). Also, Kenny Rogers.

Up next, Chris Mazza.
