Walt Garrison ‐ 79

An Oklahoma State Cowboy, later a Dallas Cowboy, and at times an actual cowboy (participated in rodeos in his spare time and off-seasons, much to the dismay of Tom Landry) before later becoming a chewing tobacco pitch man: 'I'm Walt Garrison and I don't smoke'

God, I love the riff on "Children of the Grave." It's probably in about fifty different songs, from metuhl to disco to blues, and it's a floor-filler every time.

I thought Burt Young had moved on at least 10 years ago. I ran into him back in the nineties the West Village at 2:00 AM, trying to reach somebody by pay phone. It was stunning to think that a big shot like him was all alone at loose ends after hours. That seemed more like a me situation.

I'm surprised Burt Young didn't die of embarrassment when Sly made him act with a Robot in Rocky IV.

Also played Thornton Mellon's goon/chauffeur in Back to Scool.

The original members of Black Sabbath (Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler are all still alive. They were formed in 1968 and released their first album in 1970. I can't think of another band whose members are all still living (this is not counting later members including Ronnie James Dio who is dead). This makes them, as far as I can figure, the longest-living band around (this is bands, not duos like Simon & Garfunkel). Would be interested to hear if anyone can think of another. After them, I only can think of Talking Heads who were years later.

Aerosmelt is doing a pretty good job being alive. They don't go back as far as Sabbath, but they've been active since 1970, released their first album in 1973, and have five longtime members, a departed founding member, and two interim members, all above ground.

Not going too far out on a limb, but it's Ozzy's favorite Sabbath song.
I saw him in various solo incarnations at least a half dozen times and
he always closed with it.

Why did I hijack Gwdi23 thread? A friend of mine texted me yesterday.

"Ozzy died'
"No he didn't, I've had news on all afternoon"
"Just saw someone report it"
"Turn off FOX News NOW!!!"

Semi-legendary power-pop icon who lost a key chunk of his career to legal infighting with the labels and such. Cool enough to let drummer Phil Seymour do a lot of the singing.

The bass player looks kinda familiar too.

And everyone's first thought is that there's no way he was sober at the time.
54 y/o. I know his father, also an actor, is still living as a picture of the two was made public just recently.

I was thinking about whether anybody had ever managed to have such a successful career as a professional unabashed asshole, even while attempting to move in circles where people try really hard to represent themselves as respectable. And then I thought, "Oh, yeah, President Trump."

And then I come here and see KC's post showing them buddied up. How un-shocking is that?

Ken Mattingly -- 87

Most famous at this point for being the guy who Didn't go on Apollo 13 and was subsequently portrayed by Gary Sinise in the movie about that mission.
But, from Mission Control, played a large role in helping the crew solve the problem of energy consumption which allowed them to return to earth and
did later get his trip to the moon as the command module pilot on Apollo 16.

Of the 24 men who have traveled to the moon, nine remain alive including four of the twelve who walked on the surface. Seven of those nine are in their 90s
and none are younger than 88.
It's looking like plans for manned missions to the moon are on target to happen in the next two years or so, likely with missions from other countries not far
behind, so it's probable that we won't get to a point where there are no lunar travelers left alive. But, man, it was beginning to look like that was going to be
the case until recently, a reality that would have seemed inconceivable to most when the Apollo project was shut down following the Apollo 17 mission in
