My uncle ran a racquetball club that a lot of the Jets of that era hung out in. I remember Marvin as being one of those guys who is such a terror on the field, you'd think they'd be uncontrollable off, but was a real sweet dude — apart from G-FaFiF's account, anyhow.
On reflection, it's hard to believe there was a time that professional NFLers had to go to a racquetball/fitness club to throw weight around, and that their entire lives weren't just one big gym. Greg Buttle was the only guy I remember playing racquetball.
The last time I saw her she was buying tomatoes at a Gristede's super market on the Upper East Side.
She was made for Broadway and Broadway was made for her.

Just thinking about Ms. Lansbury yesterday and looked her up.
Moved to Ireland to get her kids out of LA when her son became a junkie and her daughter became a member of the Manson Family. Good move. Saved 'em both.
Her mother was an actress from Belfast and her dad was a British Communist Party politician.

I can only see her as an old lady, even back when she was still a choice piece of wool

She was scary as hell in The Manchurian Candidate.
Jerry Lee was the last surviving member of the first class of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

How he got 87 will forever by a mystery, although I don't think his last few years were very good ones.

JLL went from most likely member of the first generation of rock 'n' roll to die young to the last one standing.
Follows his cousin Mickey Gilley into the hereafter by five months. Both are survived by Jimmy Swaggart, also a cousin and the third member of their teenage music group.

Jules Bass - 87 Producer
Bass, who brought us beloved animated Christmas specials like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Frosty the Snowman," died this week. He was 87.
Julie Powell, secretary who saw herself stuck in a dead-end job and doomed to a life of mediocrity, who then decided to cook every single recipe in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, chronicling her year-long odyssey in a blog that became a book and then a movie starring Meryl Streep - 49, of cardiac arrest
“It assuages my hopelessness,” she told the New York Times as she neared the end of her project. “If I get this done, somehow it will all be O.K. It’s better than being a secretary.”
That's rough. She's a legend in the massive world of writers who can't find their angle — banging out a blog that gets turned into a book that gets optioned for a movie.

Gallagher, 76. A USF man, though I’m not sure my alma mater made much of the association. Crush a watermelon in his honor.
