Here's a way to solve two problems.
Let's exchange 200 Republican congressmen for the 200 hostages.
Thank my wife for that one.

1) Why would they want him?
2) That doesn't solve the Speaker problem.
LOL!

Joking aside, the elimination of Trump from the political realm (say by a lengthy prison sentence) may very well solve the speaker problem and other problems in the Republican tent, because they all stem from him and his influence

I think means and ends are largely convertible terms.

Hopefully a strong enough punishment for the former president — be he means or end or cause or symptom — has the added benefit of checking other malefactors in our polity.

If tomorrow Donald Trump were squirted out of the universe like a watermelon seed, the dysfunction in the Republican party would not cease. The things he has already broken, the norms he violated, the chaos he unleashed, can't go back in the bottle. He's given his acolytes permission to do the tings they're doing right now, consequences be damned. That won't be fixed until people are replaced, a very long-term project.

Well he is now, apparently, out of the picture going forward so I think that fact alone is worth a short time with a Speaker-less Houae

Is he right though? I don't follow the goings-on of the car makers very much. Are they shifting production elsewhere? Does EV have anything to do with it? Are the unions complicit? Or Donald Trump off on some crazy tangent? It might be the last one, but I'd want to know more before assuming that if I were an auto worker

Probably isn't far wrong on that, Ford makes their EV cars in the USA , no idea if they are Union plants though

Ford makes their Mach-E in Mexico. The Lightning F-150 is made here in the States. Most car companies are encountering difficulties getting EV production up and running. The $7500 EV credit which is part of the Inflation Reduction Act will help the US industry; it lasts through 2032, and it's bringing companies here to manufacture. Hyundai's a perfect example- currently their EV's are made in Korea, but by next year they'll be producing them here because they don't get the credit unless they're manufactured in North America.

All the automakers talk a good game about EV's but Tesla's been eating their lunch for years (and probably will for a few years more). They've figured out how to make electric vehicles at a profit, all the others lose money on every car they sell. Only when they produce and sell them in sufficient quantities will they break even. In the meantime they rely on gas-guzzling SUV's and pickups to fatten their bottom line, but that gravy train is going to end in 2035. So they better get their shit together or they'll go out of business.

At least Ford and GM are trying; brands like Honda, Chrysler, Mazda and Toyota are deer in the headlight right now. They're going to get run over soon.

The US makes 9.2 million cars and commercial vehicles annually. That is second only to China, albeit by a lot, as The Red Dragon produces 26.9 million. As far as percentages go, the US produces 11.75% of the world's cars and commercial vehicles with 4.27% of the global population, while China produces 33.32% with 18.16% of the world's population.

And the answer is, as always, that President Trump has no idea what he's saying. Even when he's right, he's wrong. As for "going to Hell," come on.
