I honestly think this has been a pretty terrific last 24 hours for Trump.

It feeds his victimization narrative, which he expertly played with words like siege and occupy. It puts Republican focus back on him, and it led Congressional surrogates to rally around him.

I hope the investigators have a giant-assed smoking gun with President Trump's fingerprints all over it.

His fanatics would love the pee tape. They'd reenact it after every rally.

A Pee Tape would be very funny, if it came out from other sources. The FBI raided the home of a past president and essentially the face of the opposition to the current administration, a move that smells like the type of political persecution you expect from Erdogan or Putin, not Joe Biden. I hope they found a smoking gun. it is a terrible look and a boon to Trump if they didn't!

This would be preferable I think. If he is convicted of some minor bullshit it becomes a case of persecution again - either "everyone does it but they only went after me" or "this is a lie" - it would be far better to watch him run away and leave no doubt as to his guilt!

not true. This is a republican talking point.

The government operating as intended is NOT a terrible look. What it is, is a way for republicans to spin a narrative (a false one, obviously) about overreach, etc. None of it's true of course, and we shouldn't really engage with it in a meaningful way.

No one, especially media people, should be talking about how unprecedented it is to search a former president's place, they should be talking about how unprecedented it is for a former president to steal from the government on his way out.

THEN, they should make the charges stick, so he's not legally allowed to appear on the ballot again. That's one of the penalties for violating this law.

and THEN they should fire all those extra FBI agents the republicans hired, and invest it in the climate and teachers.

The problem is that the spin will call it minor bullshit no matter what it is.

Don't let anybody be fooled or lie to you. If he's in jail, it's major bullshit.

(Unless he's Mayor Marion Barry, Jr. That guy went to jail for minor bullshit.)

Yeah, if he is in jail, but what if he isnt? i think him running makes for better optics as far as disillusioning all but his most crazy followers

Fair enough. It's hard to spin that.

I mean, they will, but it's hard. If he was loved and celebrated in exile by throngs awaiting his return once a favorable government allowed it (or pardoned him), he wouldn't be the first.

I think fewer people would love and celebrate him if they read this:(his history as a lying criminal)
https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a ... id-crimes/
It deals his cheating on taxes, contractors, investors and just about any gullible marks he could separate from their money.
(I hope this is an acceptable link, and if not ,please tell me what is meant by a blind link.)

The penalty for that charge is up to 20 years in prison.
Not all verdicts are in yet. The judge sent the jurors back to deliberate the remaining charges.
It will be up to the Judge whether the prison sentences for all charges will be served consecutively or concurrently.
