Just my two cents, I think 'willfully' not getting vaccinated was where he was going.

yeah, i'm not happy about how priviledge plays into getting the vaccine.

it should not be true that if you have the means and time to jump on a computer and/or facebook group, or have people who agree to do so for you, that you can get the vaccine sooner, even if 'sooner' is within your vaccination cohort.

every dose of vaccine offered to the public in each state should have been doled out through the states' distribution system, and directed from there.

sign up for the state, and get notices of how the vaccine is getting rolled out. appointments at each distribution partner should have been arranged through the state portal. CVS has a thousand doses coming in - the state vaccine server automatically assigns people to it, and contacts them to confirm, as well as informing the next group that they are potentially waitlisted. and so on and so on. give people the option to state their availability, locality, and geographical footprint to aid in the scheduling.

At this point, by the time the state vaccine distribution system gets around to noticing that my 82-year old mother is on their damned list, i'm expecting the notice to read something like "by this time you should already have been vaccinated through other means. if not, why the hell did you think we would do it for you, even though we said we would. sucker. you're either poor or under-privileged or a technical luddite. either way, maybe we don't want you to survive this. please solve the following captcha so that you can be given a link that you must manually type into your browser - internet explorer version 4.2 or below, please - to ensure that you are put on our updated waiting list to receive a .pdf file that shows where you might be able to get the vaccine in the future. thanks, and good luck."

this is fucking ridiculous. networking - either fucking definition - should not be a prerequisite for getting a vaccine. especially to the elderly and poor and disadvantaged who need it most.

luckily my mom has used me to her own advantage, and i was able to get her her own appointments outside the system.

and how dare any state open up lower categories for vaccinations while they're still sitting on people in higher categories waiting for their first.

Maybe New Jersey just sucks ass? I've been there many times and generally that's been my experience.

it's certainly possible. do other states do it better? i mean rolling out and coordinating vaccinations so that those in most need are better able to get them, without needing to pull strings and favors?

Hm. I was talking about willfully ignorant people who would refuse to get the vaccine after there's ample supply to vaccinate everyone, rich, poor, white, black or whatever. The highest vaccine-hesitancy group right now is white Republicans.

As for using connections to get a vaccine, it's not normally anyone's business, but I have a wife who has an auto-immune disease (Google 'Sjogren's'), and we've been hitting 'refresh' for quite a while now. Pharmacies can't always store the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines because of the refrigeration requirements. They sometimes wander through the store at the end of the day asking random people if they want to get vaccinated. I'd like her to be one of those people, so yeah, I'm using every tool in the toolbox and there's no guarantee it'll work, just like not everybody flying standby gets on the plane. She's not cutting the line as she's eligible right now. If that makes me a college-educated suburban monster, I'll wear it.

I was flip about it and yes, not everybody has the privilege I have. Mea culpa.

I personally don't know anyone in New York state who hasn't been able to at least get an appointment if they're of a certain age or have a medical requirement, including myself. I do happen to live close to one of the major inoculation centers (the NYS Fairgrounds, which are now set up even for overnight spots), but all of my friends' elderly relatives have gotten vaccinated, all of my wife's staff at the day care center, and all of my friends who work in health care. Other folks like myself, who have underlying conditions, are all also at least scheduled at this point.

Maybe there are people in other parts of the state struggling to get on the books but I've not been exposed to that. We're mostly waiting now for the general population to get the OK to sign up. Fboy turns 16 in two weeks and at that point can be at least medically cleared to receive the Pfizer vax.

In Pennsylvania it has not been very efficient. My parents, both in their 80s, were able to get their first dose as early as January 31. They don't live in the same county that I do. I registered with my county on January 13, the day after the registration opened, and on February 26 got an e-mail saying that it was my turn to make an appointment, which I promptly did, for March 2. My girlfriend, who is also eligible because of a medical condition, didn't register until January 15. That two-day delay will probably result in her waiting an additional three or four weeks to get her appointment. My son, also eligible because of a medical condition, dragged his feet until January 22. That will delay his appointment even further. My girlfriend's mother, who registered on January 12, got her vaccine at the same time and place as I did. My daughter, my sisters, and my sister's kids are not in the priority group at all and I have no idea when they'll get their turn. I think (and hope) that the logjam will loosen up soon.

KB has a vaccine slot appointment early Sunday afternoon. They reached out to her,
so I guess things are starting to flow.

#TeamPfizer over here. Popped over to the Meadowlands last night. Next shot is 3/27. Technically makes me basically set for Opening Day (which I'm almost definitely not attending, but still)

Bad news: I heard it's a good idea to beware the ides of March

So if I stop posting on Tuesday ...

My second shot is the day after tomorrow, putting me on track to be as immune as a guy could be just in time for April and the start of baseball season. I'm hoping to not have too much of a reaction to this booster.

Got my first one today, from the friends at Pfizer. I confess it was pretty emotional. I can see my parents again after a year and a half. I had tickets for a flight to see them last March. They got their shots this month, and now I can head down there in May.

It's a great feeling, isn't it?

I got a call from my girlfriend about an hour ago. She heard from the county today and her first dose of Pfizer is scheduled for one week from today. I'm every bit as happy right now as I was when I got my e-mail from the county.

The people from the government are here to help. Shit yeah!

Shot #2 done! No worse for wear, just yet. Two weeks and I'm fully primed for activity in the world. Beyond happy.

Thanks! Aside from feeling like I have a "Game of Thrones" arrow sticking out of my arm in the injection spot, I feel pretty good today.

Many people have said the reaction to the second shot is worse than the first.

I can tell you that it certainly hurt my arm more than the first shot did. Still no other noticeable effects, aside from a bit of a cough in my chest.

Even with increased sites and supply... it's tricky finding shots in the city.

I'd bet a kidney that NYC has almost certainly not gotten its proper, proportionate share of vaccine supply.

I've seen lots of concerns from LI friends and family too, but as fman notes, it seems like appointments have been plentiful up here.

Came back from the Cuse this morning after getting #2 myself.
