Guess who died in 2022
Re: Guess who died in 2022
Dang, Louie Anderson, Baskets.
There was a scene where he as a guy, was playing a very jealous woman, and being lights out good.

Meat Loaf, Louie Anderson, and now Thich Nhat Hahn.
That makes for some interesting travel companions on the journey into the hereafter.

Clark Gillies, 67.

Re: Guess who died in 2022
I think of him as the third member of the Trottier-Bossy line during the Stanley Cup run, but I think he only started the run with those two. Somewhere along the way, Bob Bourne got bumped to the first line and Gilles fell to the all-G-Men second line of Gilles-Goring-Gilbert.
All six were Canadians in those pre-Russian invasion days, but I think Trottier identified as Native American and played for the U.S. in the Canada Cup.

Re: Guess who died in 2022
I don't remember the term "Power Forward" being used at the time (as it was in that link) but it's a good description for Gilles and players like him from back in the day when your team's
tough guy/fighter (although there was rarely just one) didn't mean just a barely-talented goon. You don't score 30+ goals/year, as Gilles did in his prime seasons, if your only job is to
protect Bossy. Trottier/Bossy/Gilles was a helluva first line for a number of years. And while each clearly had individual strengths, their roles weren't as strictly defined as they would have
been in later years when expansion more or less doubled the size of the league since their day.
IIRC, both he and Bobby Bourne had shots at baseball careers but pursued hockey instead.
From the colorfully named town of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Gilles had a standard answer when asked where Moose Jaw was: 'About six feet in front of its ass'

Yeah, I think Gilles was a catcher.
Bourne was a lefty-swinging first-baseman who actually played a single professional season in the Appy League.

I thought I remember both as 1B-men, but maybe not.
Bourne was fast as hell on his skates, one figures he would have been so on his feet as well.
Surprising that they didn't put him in the outfield.

Well, that's a catcher's mitt at his feet.
Funny that he made it as far as working out for the team but never played.

Not surprising also that Clark was a real good golfer, doing well in the mini 'Celebrity Tour' that existed for a time. That tour was informally known as the Rick Rhoden tour for a while
as the one-time Pittsburgh pitcher dominated the ex- (and sometimes current) jocks and actors who made up the rest of the field.
The main event on that tour was (and is) at Lake Tahoe which has aired on NBC for years. So I'm watching one year and it's Rhoden and former NBA'er Bill Lambeer in the final pairing
down the stretch so much of the TV coverage is on them. Michael Jordan, at least 20 strokes back, got every one of his shots on TV as well (NBC then held the NBA rights). Lawrence
Taylor, probably only recently retired, got the next most TV time even though he was at least a dozen shots in back of Jordan. And then there was Gilles, in 3rd place and in the pairing
right behind Rhoden & Lambeer. But he was a hockey player, and an ex-one at that, so was of no interest to the network. He was shown maybe twice the whole day despite being just
off the lead.

Dr. Johnny Fever is off the air.

My neighbor growing up, Joey, was 56. Very sweet funny guy, everyone liked him. I knew him before he introduced the whole neighborhood to Rush and once that happened we kind if disconnected.
He was also a really talented musician who became a leading craftsman making electric violins, working with one of the guys from Transsiberian Orchestra.

I like that his older, more studious, and more straight-laced brother was always known as Steven (never Steve or Stevie), both by his parents and by everyone else as far as I ever heard.
But Joseph, the laid-back rock-n-roller, never seemed to be anything other than Joey in or outside his family. Not sure how early those monikers got established but both seemed to fit.

Sister Janet Mead, unlikely Top 5 hitmaker, reportedly (but not assuredly) 84.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/03/arts ... -dead.htmlSister Janet’s recording of “The Lord’s Prayer,” which featured her pure solo vocal over a driving drumbeat — she had a three-octave range and perfect pitch — became an instant hit in Australia, Canada and the United States. It soared to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 during Easter time in 1974, and she became one of the few Australian recording artists to have a gold record in the United States.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

There's the folk rock Church I grew up in. It was totally Catholic, Stills, Nash, and Young.
To me, it was just Church, but I can't imagine the culture shock my parents had to get through. Rest in peace and rock on, Sister Janet.

Oh my God! What have you done to me? I clicked on that video just once and now that tune is stuck in my head in an endless loop.
Re: Guess who died in 2022
Donny Gerrard, who sang lead on the 1973 hit “Wildflower” for the Canadian group Skylark, 75. At 10, I bought the 45; it had skips and I exchanged it for a smoother copy (withstanding snark from the teenaged TSS record department clerk that I had to have this particular record).

His last two gigs were coaching the Nets and the Clippers in the nineties. That's a rough draw. Three 17-win seasons in his last seven years.
