USA have been awful at the back today and the Dutch make them pay, 3-1 and it looks like curtains for the US

Yeah, I think ultimately the US got done in by their naivete at the back and the lack of a center forward up front. I don't follow the US team closely but very few fans seems happy with this coach at all.

When you see the accurate crossing passes by the Dutch (helped out by the targets being un-marked) it makes scoring in
soccer looks so easy and you wonder why there isn't more of it. But of course it's not that easy. That 46th minute goal
was obviously a killer.

The main complaint I've heard of this USMNT coach has been his reluctance to go to young Reyna more often (only a
handful of minutes vs England prior to today) amid rumors that the two are feuding over something.
Don't claim to know anything more than that.

WOW! That gave me a flashback. The first time I saw my daughter play field hockey, I told her it looked like there was only one rule in that game- when it looks like a team will score, blow the whistle and go the other way.
I agree with you. Low scoring has been one reason Americans have given for not loving soccer as much as the rest of the world. If relaxing the off sides rule would increase scoring, I wonder if the US soccer league might experiment with it for some games to determine if it would really help.

I take it that what the team also seems to be missing is a finisher up front - more or less the role Clint Dempsey used to fill. Three goals
scored in four games -- even while allowing only four against the better competition in the world -- is rarely going to get you very far.
But they were among the youngest teams in the tourney so that's ... something.

1 - 0 Argentina over Australia as they near the end of the first half.
Just turned it on about five minutes ago and have seen Messi on the turf -- laying on the ground holding his leg screaming something
in Spanish -- at least three time already. Was still breathing when I looked away.

The Aussies gave it a good go , fair dinkum to them, and indeed could have tied it up at the death. Argentina moves on 2-1 to face the Dutch

The CPF has definitely suffered in recent times due to the absence of the phrase 'fair dinkum'

France V Poland and England V Senegal

France V England would certainly be a juicy QF....so would France V Senegal for historical reasons

Mbaappe ha been great and I would expect France to beat Poland , and I think Senegal can beat England , a good battle in midfield. Should be good games

Andrés is only about 60 but I imagine his larynx is pushing 95.

Funny, because I actually checked to see his age and was surprised he's only 59

Japan had been looking real good in this WC ... I guess right up until today - though Croatia was 'Final Four' last time (I think) so no shame in a PK loss to a good squad.
