I, on the other hand, am enjoying this whole shit show even as I'm not really following it all that closely.
But it's essentially an intra-party tiff from a party which desperately needs an internal discussion of what
they are and where they want to go. The more they argue the better afaic and, maybe if they argue long
and loud enough, they might even come to the conclusion that they prefer to be an actual political party
with values and ideals rather than merely a cult.

I guess McCarthy auctioned off his testicles last night, because a significant portion of the terrorists are voting for him now. He's still not there yet, though.
Gonna be a rough two years in the House.

McCarthy finally got the job, some fisticuffs in the chamber as Mike Rogers made a run at Gaetz and had to be restrained by other members. A Speaker in name only.

Seems McCarthy had to promise Matt Gaetz his teenage daughter.

* House Republicans voted Monday to hobble the Office of Congressional Ethics.
* The body will likely be limited in carrying out investigations because of staffing shortages.
* George Santos, facing multiple investigations and ethics complaints, called the changes "fantastic."

Besieged fraud and shameless bullshit artist George Santos said that the cuts will give the Congressional Ethics Office more power as he then went on to accept the George Orwell Doublespeak Award for 2023. Contest over.
Re: All Politics Are Loco: 2023
He's getting a call to resign from his fellow Nassau Republicans, and that can't be good.

He's got that smug Matt Gaetz look about him, like he's not going to do anything someone else tells him to do.

Are the sensitivities surrounding classified documents less important than I've always thought they were? Should they really be that hard to keep track of?
Seems like 2017 would have been a good time to double or triple check that they weren't where they're not supposed to be. Certainly by summer 2022.

i could answer that question, but then i'd have to kill you.
in all seriousness, my god, no, they are not all that easy to keep track of sometimes. depending on what it is and what environment it is in. and of course who you are and what you're doing.
i'd go on, but... well... i'd better not. mostly because it's late at night and i'm tired. ... and i suspect it'll be hard to sleep now with all those black helicopters flying overhead.
Re: All Politics Are Loco: 2023
Well, maybe Congress needs to pass a bipartisan Document Security Act of 2023.
I've never been a fan of Biden, and that sort of sloppiness totally seems to be on-brand, but I can't shake the suspicion that the incriminating docs were planted, and so it seems I've finally succumbed to Trump Derangement Syndrome.
OE: And HEY! It seems that AG Merrick Garland has appointed a special counsel of Biden's very own!

Dumbed down, as only I can do here; I think they're about to drop
an atomic bomb on Trump for the classified documents thing and they're
treating a few docs at Camp Biden the same way with special this and that
so when the mushroom cloud goes up they can't whine and finger point that
Biden was given some sort of special treatment while Trump was indicted for
a dozen counts of lord knows what.

Agree. And the Republicans have to walk a thin line here.kcmets wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 2:23 pm Dumbed down, as only I can do here; I think they're about to drop

If they go ballistic and say Biden committed a crime (which some already have), that would be saying their boy did the same thing. Doesn't mean they will say he did, though. But the MGA folks won't recognize the difference in magnitude and intent to cover it up.

Taking money from a disabled vet's service dog is reprehensible and should be the tipping point.
But if the GOP wasn't offended by Donnie insulting a Gold Star mother, this will bounce right off.

Shedding one of 222 members of your House caucus and shedding a president are very different things. I think he goes. He's worth more to them dead than he is alive.

Not so sure. One - the GOP is shameless. They'll back Hitler if it suited them politically. Also, they're shameless. And they'll likely lose the special election. So McCarthy's tiny tiny margin shrinks even more.
If he goes, it'll be in the face of criminal charges, not before.

If the GOP dumps Santos before criminal charges are leveled against him, it'll likely be because the GOP has very solid advance notice of a coming indictment.

Your guess is as good as mine. But I think the GOP will ride him out until he's indicted because they, (and especially McCarthy) need his vote and that, it seems, is all they care about.Edgy MD wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:01 pmAnd I mean to suggest that the persistence of this guy's tenure doesn't suit them politically.batmagadanleadoff wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 10:59 amThey'll back Hitler if it suited them politically.
Why would the GOP draw the line with this piece of shit? This is the party that backs retarded QAnon'ers. And racist white supremacists. And neo- nazis. And election deniers. And not just plain old every-day voting election deniers. More than half of the GOP House caucus itself is made up of election deniers. This GOP made MTG one of the most powerful Republicans out there and she's an idiot who can barely put together a grammatically correct sentence. But suddenly, George Santos is too much?
