The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
I can easily see how this can happen, everyone here was great, from the youngest age 25 to the oldest two in their 70s ... I was the only white juror, rest were Hispanic and Black , we all got along and respected the process, walked to the subway together etc.
I certainly take my civic duty seriously, when going through citizenship that was one thing that was brought up over and over.

I’m in charge of the iceberg toss!
I have no idea what that is :)

There were two defendants, both Hispanic. Our very diverse jury found one guilty and one not guilty.

Smells like stinkbugs in the back room but haven't seen one yet.

When I got to my building yesterday the NYPD had several SUVs there , at least 5 , plus emergency service vans , they had the driveway to the back of the building parking blocked , whatever, I called the Super , he said the crazy guy in 2B had barricaded himself into the apartment... Cops had shields etc , it's a Co-op building but some people rent out... Apparently an eviction, seems heavy handed for all that but who knows

I just spoke to a customer who lives on Roger Maris Drive in El Paso Texas.
Roger was born in Minnesota and is buried in North Dakota and never played for either Texas team. (He died in Houston)
I wonder why they named a street after him in El Paso.

Paste these coordinates into Google Maps: 30.534467847602695, -97.61824796956039
It's a neighborhood in Round Rock, Texas. It has streets named after Tom Seaver, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Johnny Bench, Yogi Berra, Nolan Ryan, Rod Carew, Hank Aaron, and more.

It's been announed by his family that Jimmy Carter is opting for "home hospice care" in lieu of further hospital stays.
Sounds like it's the final lap for the now 98 y/o former president. He's already the longest living president and the longest ex-president in the country's history.

He came to our campus with Mrs. Carter in 2014 and everyone who met him said he was extremely gracious and friendly. He spent a lot of time meeting with students.Frayed Knot wrote: ↑Sat Feb 18, 2023 6:45 pm It's been announed by his family that Jimmy Carter is opting for "home hospice care" in lieu of further hospital stays.

Why do they still sell 'heavy duty' batteries?
They are basically useless.

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
The batteries in my thermostat were winding down. I suddenly realize that there was a time — perhaps around 1998 — where suddenly marketers realized that people didn't need to by their AAs and AAAs in packs of four or eight anymore, and they started appearing more frequently in sizes of 24–40 per pack. By the time I need all those batteries, the power will have largely seeped out, I'll have moved at least twice, and possibly done some time in jail. Basically, I will have lost 30 of those 40 batteries before ever using them.

We went to see Moulin rouge yesterday evening, it was spectacular and fun, anyway , a young girl (maybe 22/23) in the row ahead of us was wasted and screaming out of sync with the rest of the audience, just random hooting and hollering, bit so loud it was very annoying, some audience members spoke to her, anyway she passed out, vomited in herself and during intermission staff came and helped her out, sad to see actually
Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
She probably paid good money to be too drunk to enjoy that show. Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
what do you mean by 'heavy duty' batteries?
as far as AAA/AA batteries go... damn, i can't keep enough of them in stock in my house. kids have lots of little things that use batteries, i guess.
i had a bunch of rechargables a while back, but they got mixed up and i lost track of which of em are at what charge level. i also had a bunch of things that used three batteries at a time. and that seems to really piss off the charger to the point where they no longer work. so i went back to the disposables...
and so... thanks to this, i've done some digging and decided that i need to get back into the rechargable battery game. and invest in panasonic eneloops, apparently. their charger charges each battery individually, whereas my old duracell & energizer chargers always needed the batteries in matched pairs. hence my prior troubles. now i just need to spend more money to solve my problems!

Re: The More or Less of Whatnot Thread 2023
I keep my spare batteries in the refrigerator. A long time ago, I read that this prolongs the battery life. I know that in the past, I've pulled batteries out of the fridge that were in there for years and years. They worked fine. Like brand new. And lasted about as long as if I'd began using them right after I bought them.
