Doing Portugal and Spain this September. Going north to south in Portugal staring in Porto, then Lisbon and finally the Algarve in the south. Then Seville and on to Mallorca, where we went last year but loved so much we had to go back. Will be missing a lot of the stretch drive this year.

Have a great trip.
Don't forget to bring back t-shirts for all of us.

Just got back form Indian Lake Islands , anyway , when we checked in we were told that indeed bears have been seen swimming in the lake ,visually seen last Wednesday at the site across from ours , our site #42 is across the lake from #49 , you could swim it , we were also told that nothing would remove it, bear spray, flash bangs ,the Rangers tried to trap it etc...bottom line keep the site clean and food away from the sire ,they gave us two bear secure coolers ....so with all that we head out in the pontoon , the sites are very secluded and takes 30 minutes from the marina, we didn't see any bear ,but you could hear it at night. Of course sound travels far in such a secluded lake area , very unnerving to say the least, but we did it, I probably wouldn't go there again, saw Bald Eagle's though

That sounds very scary/cool/adventurous!

We are headed back to Montego Bay for Xmas, to the same resort we spent last Christmas at. We really enjoyed our week there.

My trip to San Diego was great. I think it was the first time I ever spent nine consecutive nights in the same hotel. We really didn't want to come back home! We're looking at it as a possible retirement destination, if we can find a way to make it affordable.

The missus wanted to see the Pretenders -- their only New York show is at Citi Field opening for Foo Fighters -- so no thank you.
Instead, we are headed up to Boston in two weeks for a weekend and then a week in Maine. While in Maine we will see the Flaming Lips in Portland so we begin and end the trip with concerts.

That sounds like fun! I was in Boston in March, the first time in about 20 years. Such a great city to walk around!cal sharpie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:25 pm The missus wanted to see the Pretenders -- their only New York show is at Citi Field opening for Foo Fighters -- so no thank you.

My wife and I have always enjoyed San Diego and Coronado on the 4-5 times we have been there in the past 30 years. There weather is absolutely gorgeous, unless of course you like winter snows or oppressive summer heat. The affordability is the big issue for most of California.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 9:12 am My trip to San Diego was great. My wife, daughter, and I are heading to Alaska for 10 days to visit our son who works for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service as the lead marine biologist at the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge. He will meet us in Anchorage on Friday afternoon to begin a 7 day family tour from Anchorage through Denali National Park to Fairbanks and back. Then we will fly into Bethel, AK where our son lives, for a long weekend, before flying home.
My wife and I toured Alaska for 17 days in 2017, but our daughter has never been there. Our moved there for his work last August 1st of last year, he has been to Anchorage and Fairbanks a few times, but has never been to Denali. Should be a fun family trip and a nice break from the summer heat.

we're heading out on a two-seek whirlwind tour of america's vast southwest next week, planning to hit up sedona, grand canyon, zion, bryce, lake powell, and las vegas. i'm hoping we can do a greatest hits type thing as we bounce around from place to place.
for grand canyon, we're definitely planning to do bright angel trail. we'll see how far we go, but i think there's a decent chance we go for the three miles down, three back up option. depends on the heat more than anything, of course. i'd rather hike shorter, and maybe hit up multiple spots, than end up in a hospital (or a book). Also excited to go for one of the night sky viewing events.

My son and his wife did that area a couple of years ago and loved it!
Re: Headin' Out: Vacations 2024
Toward the end of the week, we'll be heading out to Eastern Connecticut to spend a day(and night) of donating all my money to indigenous peoples at a Casino.
This will be the first day not sleeping in my own bed since I've been on nightly dialysis. This will be a test for longer stints in the future.
