This is my social media as well. I have talked about starting a Facebook account for years, but have never quite got around to doing so. I just want to keep tabs on a few old friends from high school and college and family scattered across the country.cal sharpie wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 12:44 pm This is the closest to social media I get and I have no friends who worship at the orange shrine so I am fairly safe other than getting so depressed reading the news.
Unfortunately, living in the southeast, most of my friends (at least the ones willing to voice an opinion) are Trump supporters. The main issues with them appear to be (1) illegal immigrants crossing the southern border, (2) opposed to abortion, (3) economy, and (4) they won't try to take away their guns. Most all of them are educated, highly successful, upper middle class households, that are strong supporters of local charities (local food kitchen, HABITAT houses, and local home for battered women). The life they lead and their day to day actions just seem at odds with their strong support of Trump. Luckily, we agree to disagree, so we really don't discuss the election and the candidates.
When did the choices get so hard
With so much more at stake
Life gets mighty precious
When there's less of it to waste
With so much more at stake
Life gets mighty precious
When there's less of it to waste

I fear they may need more of those when women start saying "no" after they will no longer be able to obtain contraceptives. The Hot Corner wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 11:01 am and local home for battered women are a few of the causes they strongly support).

Re: Rockin' Docs post -- sorry, Hot Corner...
Sure. The real enigma, and I'll never get the appeal, is that
Trump really doesn't stand for anything. Except Trump. And
why people root for him like he's some kind of Messiah is just
fucking baffling. It's like 35-40% of the country! It's crazy.

Sorry for the double post earlier in this thread. Worrying about what life will be if Trump is elected, and becomes the all powerful dictator that he wants to be and the Supreme Court has paved the way for him to become, makes me do stupid stuff.

Re: The News and One's Mental Health 06/24-01/25
You could blame the Electoral College. Most Americans are liberal and Democratic. The GOP can't win the popular vote in a Presidential election. Even Hillary beat Trump by three million votes. Our Constitution is written in cement and the Electoral College is unlikely to be amended out of the Constitution without a civil war. So blaming the Electoral College isn't very constructive in the end, but still, there's some satisfaction in that. The Hot Corner wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 10:57 amThis is my social media as well. Re: The News and One's Mental Health 06/24-01/25
Getting back to mental health -- I guess I'm a little better with
the change put in place this week. Seeing the 30 second sound
bites of what comes out of this man's mouth at these rallies is
hard to watch. I know he's been spewing nonsense since 2015
but it's 100 times worse these days.
And then I see memes like this and I wonder what the hell are
we truly up against in this brainwashed country...
I VOTED FOR THE MAN WHO GAVE UP HIS WEALTH FOR MY COUNTRY
NOT FOR THE MAN WHO GAVE UP MY COUNTRY FOR HIS WEALTH
...good golly Miss Molly!

This country is truly living in two different realities.
