Up there in the rafters of Madison Square Garden hangs the number 12, honoring two-time champion Dick Barnett and his sweet jumper.
Like Gil Hodges, Dick was a native of Indiana, but became as New York as Times Square, earning a PhD from Fordham and becoming a faculty member at St. John's. He rocked Adidas.

Matching up with Barnett for a little one-on-one on the way to the hereafter is Stan Love, four-year NBA power forward, father to an NBA All-Star, brother to a Rock 'n' Roll Hall-of-Famer, and for a time, manager and muscle for The Beach Boys.

And father of still active NBA'er Kevin, who just finished his 17th season in 'The Association' (as the cool kids at the Four Letter network call it).
* actually I guess he hasn't yet finished his 17th season as he's now with Miami who are battling Cleveland in the opening round of the (interminable) NBA playoffs

Ruth Buzzi, 88.
If we ever see Laugh-In and Sesame Street intersecting on the Immaculate Grid, Ruth Buzzi would be a good choice for that square.

That was her given name.
I would have bet against that being the case.
