Our unvaxxed are not happy about being excluded, but my brother in law and I were pretty insistent. My sister in law's father died of COVID in April 2020, so having an actual casualty in our ranks made it easier to lay down the law.

In my case, it's the vaxxed (at least some of us) who are opting out. Nobody is being excluded.

Well, it's my in-laws who are hosting and they consulted with us. Had the anti-vaxxers been invited, there would have been some opting out on the part of the vaxxed.

Used to be I'd just avoid talking politics on Thanksgiving; things have gotten much more complicated. It's our turn to host next year and I'm not looking forward to it.

My wife's sister has a boyfriend who lives out in the sticks and is anti-vaxx. They're having a Thanksgiving too, filled with Trumpers and yaboos. My mother in law is going to that one too. We attended an outdoor party with that bunch last July 4th that was fun but I won't spend a full day indoors with all of them.

We're going to my pseudo-nephews a couple of blocks away resuming our
usual holiday bunch in a long time. He's anti-vax and likes to debate (argue,
really) everything. His wife made him vax up when she was pregnant and they
now have a baby. I think the only un-vaxed will be the matriarch of the bunch
who is life-time Democrat turned Trumponian who is 91 and everyone's like,
'what are you going to do tell her she can't come to Thanksgiving?' There's
also a lifetime hippie turned Trump too. I think I've talked about her before.
She's 50/50 on whether vaxed and personally I think she's the type who
would get the shots and tell everyone she didn't just to toot her horns after
a half dozen white-wine spritzers.

This just in! Text from my sister in law. Her boyfriend's 19 year old son tested positive. The boyfriend feels "like death" and got tested today. Because my sister in law & niece spent all last weekend with them they now have to quarantine and spend Thanksgiving by themselves. My 6 year old niece tested negative, and my SIL is vaccinated.

well, I'm hoping 2-4 is authorized before March, but yeah. Though my birthday is 3 weeks after hers, so maybe that's better for a "family finally fully vaxxed" party.

Unvaccinated adults aren't welcome in my home, and I don't mind asking.

The only question is what to do about the kids?

My 5 year old is now vaccinated. Do we shame the classmates who aren't? its not their fault... but i still dont want them in the house.

I mean if your whole family is vaccinated, it's not really a big deal. I assume you're not also asking them if they've gotten their flu shot. We're still early into the kid vaccines though, technically no one's "Fully vaccinated" yet. Though, it's not as 'nothing' as the crazypeople say, but it does spread and infect and hit kids way less than adults. The chances that a visiting 5 year old both has the virus, is contagious, AND spreads it to a vaccinated family is crazy low.

group wise, I don't think "hey, if you're kid is coming to this party, please make sure they're vaccinated" is out of line though. That's trying to minimize unvaccinated people coming in contact with each other, that's just good practice during a pandemic.

my boss' kid(s) just picked up covid from school, and passed it on to his whole vaccinated family.

I'm sure that's because the vaccinated family members are getting prolonged maskless exposure to the sick kid.

family members who carried and spread it?

kids got the symptoms first and the adults fell like dominoes. the adults have presumably been diligent and vigilant in their social distancing and other protocols.

true that the kids passing it to the adults took prolonged contact, i'm sure. just pointing out that the kids is a vector. if there's time enough to catch covid while unmasked in a cafeteria, there's time to catch it from an unmasked playdate.
