This could just as well go in the Baseball Forum

Post by batmagadanleadoff » Mon Aug 15, 2022 12:35 am

On Friday, Temple Beth David — a South Florida synagogue attended by the federal judge who authorized the search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence — was scheduled to host evening services on the beach. But a member of the synagogue on Thursday said that the Beach Shabbat event was canceled amid a deluge of antisemitic threats. The judge’s involvement in the synagogue had been publicly identified, And who outed the federal judge?

That would be ex-Met and convicted felon Lenny Dykstra, in a Tuesday Twitter post, who followed up with antisemitic comments about Beth David’s religious practices.

How is this any different from the social media campaigns to track down conservative justices eating dinner at a restaurant and trying to harass them? its not.

A better question would be "how long can free speech survive" in a society with instant Social Media and lunatics on both sides of the aisle?

The difference is between peacefully protesting (a right) by interrupting someone's dinner without confronting them directly and actual threats. It may be a fine line, but there is a difference.

It's a HUGE line, not a fine one. One is literally a protected right of this country, and the other is insurrection.

Yeah, it's like the right-wingers who try to equate the Capitol Insurrection with the peaceful Black Lives Matter protests of 2020.

If you can't see the difference between "making some noise to disrupt a rich white asshole at a fancy restaurant" vs "a synagogue having to cancel services because of death threats," then holy shit. There's a CHASM of difference.

Yeah, you might want to re-think that comparison.

Unfortunately, too many people in this country believe armed confrontation is 'legitimate political discourse', and they're egged on by right-wing media, a former president and one of the two major political parties. 99% of the lunatics are on one side of the aisle.

Really, I don't think measuring the difference is worthwhile. We should probably just avoid the semblance of whataboutism to begin with.

The key takeaway is that Lenny Dykstra is a disgusting un-American scoundrel, and we should be suitably disgusted by our association with him, however tentative that association might be.

In fact, I think this is baseball forum content.

He isn't on the list in the page1 OTD thread.

Virtually everything I have seen and read of Dykstra since his leaving baseball leads me to the conclusion that he is an ignorant, racist, sexist, jerk.

Dykstra is an asshole and needs to delete Twitter.

But half of you refuse to recognize and/or condemn the same behaviour from people who share your politics

That's true. I neglected to condemn the Antifa people who invaded the Capitol on January 6th.

Bernie Sanders isn't out there advocating violence. And I guess I missed the vast left-wing conspiracy to overthrow free elections. You want an American restricting free speech, Google Ron DeSantis. Check out what's going on in Idaho, too.

Social media is a sewer hole. It's why I stay away as much as I can. But in the real world, there only one party that's off the rails right now. The other party is trying to pass bills and make government work.

Guess this'll never make it to the baseball forum. At least we can all agree Lenny Dykstra's an asshole.

I think we could have all agreed on that even if he disappeared from the public eye the day his playing career ended.

Bro, like 6 people already told you the difference, but I'll try, too.

Brett Kavanaugh doesn't live near me, but if he did, and he was having Red Lobster down the street from me and I knew about it, I would roll up in the parking lot and call him a goddamn liar to his face, even if it interrupted his fried krab and 4 beers (because he LIKES BEER). You might find that a bit uncivilized, but that's different than threatening violence and, my guy, you have to see the difference. If you don't, you really gotta try here, cmon.

But then there's also the guy who, tipped off by protesters to his home address, traveled across the country with the intent to kill Kavanaugh. And the ones who publicize where Amy C. Barrett's young children go to school.
Those threats, and intended actions, are every bit as objectionable as assholes hurling shit on the internet about this judge and his synagogue.

Agreed. That behavior is shitty regardless of the target.
I’m just not too upset about Kavanaugh not being able to enjoy dessert.
