Posting Images, Tweets, Vids, and the Like
You may have noticed that, at the bottom of each thread, you know longer have a Kwik Respond window, all open and ready for you for to jump in and give your thoughts on the incendiary comments you just read. Now, in order to respond, you have to click the Post Reply button at the bottom left of the column of responses.
That development has thus far been met with a furious wave of one thumbs down. With apologies that we now have to make one click to open a response window, please understand that this change comes not without thought.
Firstly, come on, if you have to think one more second before posting a response, isn't that good for everybody? Let's be intentional here!
Secondly, and more importantly, too many of us just aren't familiar with the robust editorial toolbar that appears above a window when you (a) post a new topic, or (b) click that Post Reply button. The toolbar doesn't appear in the Kwik Respond window, and that's where we have done most of our post submitting.
So, yeah, all posts now have the editorial toolbar. Know it. Use it. Think about it at night when you sleep.
These tools have the power to make your boring, meandering posts into highly formatted boring, meandering posts.
HA! I kid. But they do aid with clarity, and clarity serves both the reader and the writer. Writing with concern for clarity is just the right way to be, and it helps make this forum the survivor that it is.
I'm not going to walk you through every button and dropdown menu right now, but maybe later, we'll have ongoing tutelage.
FUN FACT: One or two of the buttons don't work so great.
How Do I Post Bold and Italic Text?
Look at the first two buttons. They are all you need!
Click that B button for boldface type, and the following smidgen of code appears:
Put the text you want bolded in between the bracketed B and the bracketed backslash-B, thusly:
... and holy shit! You just bolded your text.
... that Post Reply button ... .
That's so easy that many of you who bothered reading this far (any of you?) wondered why you wasted your time.
Italicizing obviously works the same way. Click that I button and you'll get
Put your text-to-be-italicized in the middle like
And you can add emphasis where appropriate.

Yeah, but I Want to Post Photos
If you're like most folks you want to post photos. Or more likely, you want to see metsirish's photos. Fair fucks to you.
Every image on the Internet has a URL. The best way to grab it is to, in another tab, find your photo and right-click over it. Unless it's some specially secured photo, you should get a menu that includes the selection Copy Image Link. This might be somewhat differently phrased depending on your machine. On mine, it lookies like this:
That will copy a URL to your clipboard. A URL is an address on the internet. For most images, a URL will end in ".jpg"; ".png"; or ".gif". For the bunny shot above, the URL I copied to the clipboard looks like:
On the editorial toolbar the ... one, two, three ... ninth(!) button from the left looks like a landscape picture:
If you click that button, you get this itty bitty bit of code:
The "img" is, quite obviously, an abbreviation for "image."
Take that URL on your clipboard and place it in between the two bracketed parts (which are the opening tag and the closing tag) and ...
becomes
... when you submit your post.
That's great, but it's also obnoxiously big. Tomorrow, we will teach you how to resize your photos. After that, we'll talk about embedding videos and tweets in your post. For now, please experiment. Even if this all review for you, post below with some bold text, some italicized text, and a photo, to show everybody that you are down.

Much needed.
When you've completed this herculean task (training the untrainables like me) please let us know where it will be pinned for later reference.
When I used the quick response, I always found myself having to go back into edit mode because I'm a lousy typist with a keyboard that has many keys that stick. But never mastered importing stuff.
Thanks.

Re: Posting Images, Tweets, Vids, and the Like
"Post Reply" is the only way I've ever posted. I didn't even notice that the quick reply option was gone because I never used it -- and never even tried to use it. It's possible that I wouldn't even know how quick reply works, but I guess that's now moot.
Re: Posting Images, Tweets, Vids, and the Like
I always did 'post reply' on my computer, but often didn't want the extra page load on mobile

Is there a button that automatically makes a joke about jerking off? I'm worried about being supplanted by technology.
Re: Posting Images, Tweets, Vids, and the Like
yeah. the secondary load is tedious. It's 2022. I don't need a full editor to post "WTF was that weird racist ad on the braodcast?" in a game thread.
Also many images you can't just share via url like that, particularly ones from Google Photos. (You know, like my own photos) and the attachment mb limit is comically low. Which means I have to transfer any image I want to share to a separate site and generate a new url.

When using a phone, the way to right-click is to use your pinkie instead of your index finger.

Reverse the index/pinkie thing if you're a lefty.

Re: Posting Images, Tweets, Vids, and the Like
I never noticed there was a "quick response" feature. I have always posted using the "Post a Reply" button and window.
The thing I have difficulty with is posting a Youtube video. I can never seem to make it work. I am sure I am just not going about it correctly.

Embedding a tweet, here's how I go about it:
Part 1
1) Click on the share button on the tweet you'd like to post here
2) Click "copy link to tweet"
Part 1
1) Click on the share button on the tweet you'd like to post here
2) Click "copy link to tweet"

Part 2...
3) Paste the url you just copied into your post on the CPF, paying attention to the highlighted part (if there's an easier way other people do this, I'm all ears)
4) Twitter urls go www.twitter.com/user/status/yyybbb followed by a "?" and a bunch of other stuff. Delete the "?" and everything after it so you're left with this
