The McCarthy, MTG, Boebert, Gaetz and Santos circus starts today.

I hear once they get the speakership figured out and unveil who George Santos really is, they are finally going to solve the inflation and crime issues once and for all. Maybe by this afternoon.

They are showing video of Santos in the chamber and no one will go near him , the man has no shame. Looks like McCarthy doesn't have the votes , embarrassing after moving into the new office.

Sadly, Trump has demonstrated that showing shame isn't necessary.

I haven't seen anything anywhere that says who the alternative would be if it's not McCarthy.

He'll lose on the first vote, but win on a subsequent vote.

What will make it interesting is if he wins on the second vote or the 14th.

Representative Gaetz now nominating Representative Jordan in refutation of Representative Jordan's nomination of Representative McCarthy.

Strange, strange times.

Three votes on the second ballot for Jordan and we're only up to Congressmember Boebert. We're probably looking at at least one more vote.

When did McCarthy split from Gaetz and Boebert and the other Trump flunkies?

They split from him because he's not crazy enough for them.
Speaking of Matt, is he going to be indicted for his sexploits (trafficking and possibly sex with a minor)?

Representative Jeffries: 234
Representative McCarthy: 203
Representative Jordan: 19

We go to round three.

You certainly got my attention there. Wouldnt that tally give the speakership to the Dems?

212, not 234.

its too bad the government has defacto shut down predictit, this would have been a fun betting market [edit - there is still a live 'who will be speaker' market, but no 'how many rounds of voting?' which i'm sure they'd have added if they were still adding live markets[

Somewhere Trump is watching this and is eating a cheeseburger while mumbling
to an under-paid servant with his mouth full, 'If they would have just torn up The
Constitution like I told them this would all be over. No one listens to me any more.
Idiots, all of them. More ketchup, doll face...

After that, we''ll play some snatch-grab. Just grabbing, I'm happily married. Mics."

the speaker of the house need not be an elected member of the house. Odds that the orange buffoon throws his hat in the ring tonight if they recess without a speaker?

Not going to happen. I know they can technically elect a nonmember, but they never will. And Orangeman has plenty on his plate and probably isn't sure what the Speaker of the House is.

Great thread title, by the way.

What is it? Well, it's two of the things he loves most: 1) a loyalty test he can put his followers to; 2) a position that may insulate him from prosecution

Yeah, he's never let not understanding something keep him from pursuing it.

A 20th vote against Leader McCarthy has joined, in the third round, the 19 previous votes. The 20 have all gone to Representative Jordan, who keeps explicitly saying he doesn't want the job, and that he supports McCarthy.

On the inside, he knows he's getting the best of both worlds, and is pleased as punch.

Trump posted on his message app overnight backing McCarthy, which is weird to me. Him doubling down on the guy losing support seems odd. I figured he would keep quiet and then throw McCarthy under the bus once he officially lost.

I can honestly say I have zero idea how the speakership is going to turn out.
