Magical Urine: Television in 2023

Post by Benjamin Grimm » Tue Mar 14, 2023 3:24 pm

Looks like we don't have a TV 2023 thread yet.

There's a show called "Love on the Spectrum" on Netflix. Seasons One and Two are from Australia and Season Three is from the United States.

It's a sweet show, sad sometimes and heartwarming at other times. It shows autistic people looking for love. The show highlights the challenges that people with autism face. And if there are any viewers who might be inclined to dismiss them as simply "weird", this will demonstrate their humanity. I have a teenager with autism in my life, and this show gave me (and his mother) a nice dose of optimism.

If this kind of thing sounds appealing to you, give it a try.

That sounds good, Grimm.

So many entertainment options and networks to choose from.

Like everyone else in America, I think, we just finished "The Last of Us". Absolutely wonderful "zombie" style, pandemic drama, but with way more character development and less creatures groaning and growling.

"Streaking" on AppleTV is also pretty great. About time that Harrison Ford guy started kicking ass on TV.

And opening day for S3 of Ted Lasso tomorrow!

Also this show on Amazon, based on a book by the same name (haven't read it), is really pretty cool so far. It's delivered like a VH-1 "Behind the Music" about a band that's kinda like Fleetwood Mac. A cool wrinkle is that Blake Mills and collaborators took a bunch of fictional songs from the book and actually wrote them and recorded them IRL, and they are ably performed by the actors who had to knowhow to sing and play. Worth checking out if you're a Prime sucka like me.

Currently finishing The Night Agent on Netflix , 10 episode affair, if you like Bourne type stuff you'll like this. Based on the excellent book of the same name by Matthew Quirke ... Anyway , the Night Agent sits in a basement room at the White House waiting for agents in trouble to call in, the phone never rings , then the call comes , the young, hot FBI agent springs into action.

This can be a landing spot for any shows you stream

Look, it's absolutely nonsense, but fun too

Current shows I tune in weekly for to find new episodes:

Yellowjackets (Showtime) - definitely interesting...sometimes the creepy turns cringe, tho.
Lucky Hank (AMC) - I read the book and will watch anything that Bob Odenkirk is in.
Succession (HBO) - How will it all end?
Mandalorian (Disney) - this show is pretty close to jumping the shark, but I'm finshing what I've started.
Waco - Aftermath (Showtime) - Ep 1 just came out on a sequel docu-drama series about the connections between Waco and OK City bombing.
i am a patient boy...i wait, i wait, i wait, i wait

Agree about Mandalorian; I'm not sure where it's going but I'm committed at this point.
Absolutely loved Daisy Jones.
Also loved: Shrinking and Night Agent
Awaiting the last episode of Picard with white knuckles.

Yeah, episode 9 was great. I was tired of the Amanda Plummer character right out of the gate so I was glad that she was killed off.

I wasn't crying (especially with Majel Barrett-Roddenberry's voice back as the computer) You were crying...

I haven't started season 3 of The Mandelorian yet, because I thought the end of season 2 was perfect. I have a feeling that The Armorer is going to be revealed as Bo Katan's sister.

Note: Spoilers for those who haven't watched!!!!!

Loved how it ended- a real callback to the way NextGen ended. But then, when you thought it was all wrapped up, they move to a year later and who pops up? This tells me that there's another series in the offing. Seven as a captain would be badass.

Shrinking has seemingly solved the Ted McGinley curse. If a show starts off with Ted McGinley in the cast, he can't arrive in the middle of a successful run and ruin everything.

Curious to see how "Ted Lasso" wraps things up. This is the final season, unless things change. After the very, very serious last season it's taken on almost a rom-com feel.

Digital resurrections actually creep me out. I feel like I'm being softened up for the day and age when the computers have replaced us all.

The idea that it's AI playing a person playing AI buries me all that much deeper in the uncanny valley.

I think in this particular case they were just using archived audio of Majel Roddenberry from her years of voice work as the computer on all of the various Star Trek iterations. But yeah, otherwise, I'd agree.
