All-Time Greatest Jet: Al Atkinson vs. Randy Rasmussen

Post by Edgy MD » Tue May 23, 2023 11:30 am

Hearing of a controversy in this forum over who the all-time greatest New York Jet was, a self-appointed selection committee quickly convened to select 64 outstanding Jets of yesterday and today, seed them, and invite them to the All-Time Greatest Jet Invitational.

All the Jets in question quickly accepted!

And here's the good part — it's YOU who get to decide! Periodically, over the coming days and weeks, you will be presented with two Jets who embody the nebulous but distinctive quality of greatness, along with all that implies. You will choose which of the two was greatest, and he will advance to the next round?

Simple? Fun? Historically important! ALL THREE! So start voting in this thread here!

Last remaining Super Bowl III champion Jet.
A two-way lineman in college, he never played

A rare offensive lineman to have recorded a

I voted Randy but it was close.
I'd like to see the brackets, if they're available.

They will be, after the first round. We don't want to queer the vote by declaring who is the higher seed up front.

There's old Shea in the background of the Atkinson card. What's the stadium on the other card? Cleveland Municipal?

Love those old helmetless football cards where Topps didn't wanna splurge for the NFL logo rights.

The Topps football cards I grew up with in the 70s were so bad — design-wise and execution-wise — that I had no idea there were ever good ones. I just figured football cards always stunk, and if any of us collected them, they were for comedy purposes only.

Then I saw this beauty.

Maybe it was the Johnny Unitas-style haircut?
