Greatest Jet split

Post by kcmets » Thu May 25, 2023 1:44 pm

I am courteously abstaining from voting in these because I don't
like the format. But, I have to say, I think Mo was prolly my all-time
favorite Jet. I have his 75th NFL anniversary jersey somewhere. I'll
dig it up and post a pic. (it was back in the ugly green era)

Oh, you should totally vote. You'll find it fun and exciting at a deep, deep level.

I'll just read for fun, you lost me pitting Mangoldo vs Keyshawna.

The matchups should be by position imho; not C vs WR for example....

For what it's worth, Mangold is one of four centers in the field. Johnson is one eight wideouts.

Lack of info on how many players are in the mix was another factor.
In reality, there's only like a handful of GREAT Jets.

I started a discussion thread. I'm not good at the 'moved from' thing
but maybe when you get a chance you can clean this thread up.

Do it for Mo!!

I searched some folks who listed their opinions of the top Jets, and I combined averages from their lists, solicited opinions from some long-running Jet advocates to help tweak and add latter day figures, and went to work.

Would you like to see the field without seedings? I figured that showing it with the rankings would lead to a different question of how the top 64 are ranked, with much more niggling ancillary questions. "Kenny Neill at #57!!! Higher than Santonio Holmes!!! ARE YOU INSANE!! FIGHT ME, YOU FUCK!!!"

The seedings aren't really incredibly credible rankings so much as an invitational list, and any conflict over whether the 44th seed is truly better than the 49th seed can be settled in the polling booth.

But if you want the field posted with or without the seedings, please lemme know.

Lance Mehl was a name I hadn't heard for years or even thought of for at least as long, but seeing his name in the bracket brought my one lasting memory of him.
I've long since forgotten the opponent or anything resembling any game details, but there was a game Mehl helped win with several big plays including a late INT
or two. I was, at the time, sharing a place with a friend who was a big NYJ guy. Doug was out watching the game elsewhere that day so when he got home -- as
happy as he was drunk (or vice-versa) -- he walked into the living room, stood in front of the recliner, stuck out his arms and just said "LANCE FUCKING MEHL!!!!"
while doing a reverse Nestea plunge into the chair.
That Doug's 6' 3" / 200+ landing immediately flipped the recliner backwards leaving his head on the ground and feet towards the ceiling seemed to bother him not
at all. IIRC he just stayed in that position for a while.

That certainly could have been the one.
It must have been the game preceding the infamous mud bowl in Miami.

With Round One complete, Round Two will start after the All-Star Break. All the riveting action with the seeds and brackets can be viewed here.

Our big upset so far appears to be 44th-seed Marvin Powell over #21 Mickey Shuler. Please feel free to jump in and vote in any contests where the winner hasn't been announced in the bracket.

The brackets are so big I can't see the names(if any). Can you re-size it please?

Congratulations to George Sauer, Dave Herman, John Abraham, Freeman McNeil, and Don Maynard for advancing to the second round.

Of the five, Dave Herman is the only upset winner, having knocked off the higher seeded Aaron Glenn.

Sanchez never played for the Titans.
That would upset the balance of the Universe.
Sorry.

Congratulations on your advancement to the second round to Wayne Chrebet (over Joe Fields), Vinny Testaverde (over Thomas Jones), Darrelle Revis (over Jim Sweeney), John Elliott (over Jerome Barkum), and Gerry Philbin (over Marvin Jones).

Elliott is our lone upset victor from this group. Long live the dark horses.

AHA! retro jersey game. He may have been wearing the jersey as a Jet, but he still didn't play for the Titans.
No wonder the balance of the universe has been so upset since.
I'm not sure that didn't bring us Donald Trump.

Of course, but the Jets occasionally wore 'Titanswear' when he was a Jet.
It's actually a nice jersey, except that ya know it has his name on it.

I agree (good find with the pic, Edgy)
But I wouldn't want it to share the closet with my Titans jacket.
Thanks, anyhow.

Congratulations to our latest first-round victors:
Of our five winners, D'Brickashaw Ferguson was the lone underdog to triumph, taking out a Jets legend seeded 19 spots (!) ahead, special congratulations are due to him. He didn’t even have a particularly good card to represent him.

Only seven contests remain open from our first round. Please feel free to vote in any of these over the next 24 hours (the last one, currently tied, certainly needs some activity) as we prepare for our red-hot second-round action!
VOTE!

I think that picture of Tom Selleck in a Jets jersey would be appropriate in this thread.

I can't find Selleck in a Jets jersey, but here's Bobby Cannavale in a Jets jacket.

Remember to follow the bracket and vote in that stubborn Jim Turner/Chad Pennington lockup.
