Crane Poole & Schmidt

So every time I google the CPF, this comes up among the results. I clicked on it today and found out that Crane Poole & Schmidt is the fictional lawfirm on David E. Kelley's Boston Legal. And William Shatner played Denny Crane.
I have to believe this is more than just coincidence, and that there must be some connection between Kelley and Ed Kranepool. I was digging around and it seems like he's a Boston guy. Most of his shows are set in Massachusetts, and almost all of them set in the legal field. I don't see that there is any connection between him and the Mets, or to baseball at all.
I wonder if he had a writer that was a Mets fan, or a producer or someone else. Also, I guess it's possible that one of us is secretly David E. Kelley.

I found this on Ancestry.com. It's hard to imagine how it could be less informative:
Kranepool Name Meaning
Historically, surnames evolved as a way to sort people into groups - by occupation, place of origin, clan affiliation, patronage, parentage, adoption, and even physical characteristics (like red hair). Many of the modern surnames in the dictionary can be traced back to Britain and Ireland.
Ancestry can be pretty bad with things like that. Once I got an email telling me that there was a story available about my great grandfather. It read something like this:
"Your great grandfather had a job in 1910. Here are some jobs that people had in 1910..."
That site can be very helpful sometimes, and extremely lame at other times.
A Google search on "Kranepool" reveals many many results about our Ed Kranepool before I get anything not linked to him. It's definitely not a common name.

I guess I've always mostly figured that, by joining Crane & Poole with Schmidt, Kelley was pulling names from his baseball card collection, more than being a particular fan of the Mets or Phils.
Another main character was named "Sally Heep."

I'm not saying I am David E. Kelley. But I'm not saying that I'm not, also. Like you know

Right? But I can't find anything suggesting Kelley had any connection to baseball. Or even knew it existed.

Except that you never know where baseball fans are or how they spend their spare time.

Not every TV producer can be Neal Marlens.
