He also died at the tail end of the 2023 thread but that's OK, it gives me a chance to show this.
The back story to all this is that it was the first time Daytona was being shown in its entirety having usually been
relegated to the back half of the race on Wide World of Sports only. It was also the Sunday of President's Day
weekend and a big snowstorm was walloping the northeast leaving all kinds of not normally NASCAR fans stuck
indoors with their TV sets. And Cale Yarborough had bumped Bobby Allison out of the race early on and is now
battling brother Donny Allison in the final lap.
So, as Baba Wawa would have said: Wets wisten in
It's the race that's credited to putting NASCAR on it's growth spurt during the '80s & '90s as a bunch of northerners
watched this thing and thought, 'Hey these crazy rednecks are fun to watch, man!' The race also led the NYT sports
section the next day. The Indy 500 regularly did in those days but I doubt Daytona did very often.

Funny to see A.J. Foyt in the mix there. I associate him with open-wheel racing and had forgotten that he ever did NASCAR.

Yarborough took out two Allisons in that race.
I reckon that means his aim was true.

I have a pic somewhere of myself, my brother and my two cousins, all of us probably in the 5-7 year old age range, and me sporting a Starsky & Hutch shirt, circa 1977-1978

Soul was the original Hasselhoff, in that he was a TV actor fading from public view in the US, but a singing sensation following hit after hit in Germany.

Soul was also tapped to play the Rick Blaine role in a remake of CASABLANCA
IIRC the guys behind 'New Coke' said; 'Holy Shit, what a stupid idea!!!!'

Joyce Randolph, Trixie Norton in The Honeymooners (and great aunt to 2009 Mets pitcher Tim Redding), 99.
I can't find any Internet reference to it, but I recall a "Honeymooner's Night" at Shea Stadium back in the 1980s, featuring Ms. Randolph appearing and possibly throwing out the first pitch.
