Bending the Knee and Politics in 2025

Post by Edgy MD » Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:37 am

Ann Telnaes, editorial cartoonist for The Washington Post, has resigned her position after her latest submission — depicting moguls (including the paper's owner) kowtowing to the incoming administration — got spiked.

The way to fight back is to mock stupidity.

And political cartoons have been doing it for centuries. Too bad that publisher is in his pocket.

I have to say, I've seen that cartoon dozens of times now...way more than I would have if it had just been published by the paper. If the WaPo's intention was to hide the cartoon and it's sentiments, they failed badly.

The Post also lost two political reporters this week (Josh Dawsey to the Wall Street Journal and Leigh Ann Caldwell to Puck). I've heard online whispers that there may be more defections to come. They're probably not related to this specifically, but there does seem to be some shifting for political journalists at the WaPo.

No, the intent was to suck up to the bully despot of a president.

I don't even think much of Ann Telnaes and political cartooning in general, but The Post crumbling all around us is a terrible thing.

Media is crumbling all around us. Unfortunately, what's replacing it is the likes of Xitter.
The answer to the question "Can people really be that stupid?" is always "Yes."

That news article MFS62 posted is spot on. Fuck 'em all -- those stupid fucking bastards that voted in this piece of shit knowing he's a convicted felon and a vile, loathsome pathological bullshit artist who can't go more than a sentence and a half without lying. This motherfucker will wear a red necktie to a press conference and insist with a straight face that he's wearing a blue tie. But they voted him in because what matters is to own the libs. Fuck 'em and their QAnon insanity and 13th month abortions. And we're supposed to be nice and understanding to these utter imbeciles. I can't fucking believe we're gonna be in for four years of this.

He doesn't just want Americans to bend the knee.
He just said he "wouldn't rule out military force" for the US to take over Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Greenland rhymes with Sudetenland.

The Greenland shit seems to me to be straight out of the trump playbook of batshit crazy nonsense meant to distract us from greater more dire but less flashy evils

Trump asks the Supreme Court to block sentencing in his hush money case in New York

By MARK SHERMAN and LINDSAY WHITEHURST
Updated 8:29 AM EST, January 8, 2025

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is asking the Supreme Court to call off Friday’s sentencing in his hush money case in New York.

Trump’s lawyers turned to the nation’s highest court Wednesday after New York courts refused to postpone the sentencing by Juan M. Merchan, the judge who presided over Trump’s trial and conviction last May on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Trump’s attorneys asked for an immediate stay of Friday’s sentencing “to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the Presidency and the operations of the federal government.”

The Supreme Court asked for a response from New York prosecutors by Thursday.

Merchan has indicated he will not impose jail time, fines or probation.

Trump’s attorneys have pointed to the Supreme Court’s ruling giving him broad immunity from criminal prosecution as they tried to have his New York conviction tossed out.

While that opinion came in a different case, Trump’s lawyers say it means some of the evidence used against him in his hush money trial should have been shielded by presidential immunity. Merchan has disagreed.

I can make it up.

It's very easy. Making up spurious arguments hoping one of them will stick with a sympathetic judge is exactly what his lawyers do.

I was referring to the irony of that claim, not the merits of the legal argument, such as it is.

Still and all, is it that hard to make up the shit that comes from the administration? The last thing they are is creative.

I'll make one up now. As part of the effort to acquire Greenland, someone in the administration will propose that it be renamed Trumpland. People will laugh and people will ridicule for a few weeks, but when that few weeks is over, the dust will settle and we'll see that the notion has actually gained some purchase.

He's probably simply jealous because Putin is taking Ukraine and so he has to take some country, too. And to impress Putin.

Isn't that what Mussolini did with Ethiopia?

That could be so.

But I imagine that it's a better than 50% chance that what I just made up out of whole cloth will come to pass in the next two years.

Anything he says will gain traction. He has a cult like following made up of brainwashed idiots. In the end, he'll extract a humongous sweetheart hotel deal for himself and his family from Greenland. He'll probably commit several felonies and impeachable offenses in the process and get away with all of it because nobody stands up to him when it matters the most.

I'm mostly sad right now about the impending four years of just brainlessly stupid discourse, from the White House on down to everyone who lines up on that side of the field.

This article has a reason he wants Greenland ( and Canada) and from what we've seen it makes the most sense- they look big on a map.
A simple reason for a simple mind.
