Outta Here: Vacations 2025
I don't recall seeing one of these for this year.
In any event, we leave Monday for Berlin and Prague for about 12 days. Will miss the first series of the season. Haven't ever been to either of those places and have a number of things lined up to do and see. I am worried that because of the bullshit going on in Washington we will take some heat but as we'll be on the same side we should be okay.

My memory of Germany is that is very safe. There are armed security officers at the airports and I would imagine security has been heightened everywhere since the incidents.cal sharpie wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 11:00 am I don't recall seeing one of these for this year.

My daughter and her family will be doing that later in the year and I wouldn't want her to go If I felt otherwise.
Have fun.

Re: Outta Here: Vacations 2025
I was there last year for a few days. Quick tips:
- lots of good, non-touristy restaurants near the Jiriho z Podebrad stop on the A metro line. mamacoffee on Jiriho z Podebrad Square had excellent coffee.
- the self-guided tour of the Jewish quarter is well worth taking. The Nazis generally left Prague's architecture alone.
- the Charles Bridge will be crowded, but worth the walk. It rains frequently there and the stones are slippery. Wear sneakers with good treads.
- great public transportation system. The metro and trams are cheap and will get you where you need to go quickly and safely. The metro system was built by the Soviets in the sixties and doubles as a bomb shelter. If I remember correctly, the stations are generally about 200 feet deep. The escalators take about six minutes top to bottom.
- if you plan to visit Kafka's grave, note that the cemetery closes a few hours before Shabbat starts.
- I spent a rainy afternoon at the National Museum and was glad I did.

Someone I work with is cousins with the charge d'affaire at the US embassy in Prague. She has introduced me via email to that woman and we've been invited to an art and wine evening at the embassy. My first, and surely only, embassy party.

Does this mean you have to pack a suit? I wouldn't know what else to wear to a Prague embassy party

A good jacket and pants. My wife bought a dress. Worth it to have the experience.
