Somebody at The Post woke up thinking, "All the contemporary readers love a good Jonathan Harris Lost in Space reference."

I’m gonna guess that was more a nod to Joe Benigno’s WFAN refrain whenever he expressed dismay over the Jets (or any of his teams) losing. Benigno likely parroted Dr. Smith, but generations later in the context of New York sports, it became his thing.
