Well, the last time (MIDNIGHT BADNESS) was actually in 2018. In 2019 the winner was a shirtless Conforto on Newsday's STREAKERS, and in 2020 it was METS GREAT SEAVER DIES.
But we could end up with a final this year of THAT'S ALMORA against OFF THE WALL!

As of this writing, Almora will have been featured in two winning covers so far (which is quite an accomplishment for someone that accomplished so little as a Met).

I tend to think the face buried in the hands says more with less than the gushing-blood shot, but that may just be a matter of taste.

That's valid but it's on two covers so, to me, The Post's gory version stands out.
