An all-Newsday matchup forces me to THINK before making a selection.
While I mostly dislike both, the first has a stronger (if cliched) shot. The second has a stronger headline. I'm going with the top one based on (slightly) stronger overall composition.

What drives your antipathy toward Newsday? Are you still fuming over the Naked Came the Stranger hoax?

I prefer the borders that the other two tabloids use around the photos and fonts.
Editorially, I have no particular Newsday antipathy, and would probably rank them highest among the three (low standard, but ... ). Less sensationalist all around. That's good, but it doesn't always help you construct back covers.

I like the "Dealing" pose. That's quality photojournalism there.

If I judged based on my other preferences I would never vote for anything Murdoch-related but the importance and the sanctity of this process call for us to cast aside any other prejudices or beliefs and to simply focus on the covers presented to us.

I don't know if growing up in a Newsday house makes me think of it as more of a home paper than a commuter paper, or if that partially feeds into my partiality.
I also think Newsday's wider aspect ratio (4.00:3.43 vs 4.00:3.00 for the News) makes it feel less ... portrait-y.

I miss Marty Noble's aspect ratio (not that that has anything to do with TCD21)

I also like the narrower News covers. Maybe because it's more similar to the dimensions of a comic book? But I think the photos generally look better on the Newsday covers, so my vote can tend to go either way. The Post covers are typically the worst, often with just too much clutter. And I don't seem to be the only one who feels that way. The Post has been doing very poorly in this competition for the past few years. Only one first-round winner this year, compared to 12 for the News and 11 for Newsday.

How did you get Jerry to hold up this Round's winning cover? Did he do it for free as a Mets fan or did he charge his usual rate?

Jerry is a big fan of the Tabloid Cover Derby and he volunteers his services whenever his schedule permits.
