The slightly lower angle and Severino's head tipped back — along with the remaining daylight around him — allow the triumph in the eyes to get into the moment, which is all the difference for me.
Pete's got his head down as he transitions from his YEAH! face into his don't upstage the pitcher trot. There's a shadow from his brim over his eyes and another shadow around his head. A moment or two earlier, and the photographer might have gotten one of those lit-up-face-tilted-upward-in-the-anticipation-of-joy shots that you want to get from a heroic, late-inning, late-season/post-season homer.
