Tabloid Cover Derby X is now completed, and Newsday has won its fifth title, tying it with the Daily News, which won its fifth title last year. The New York Post is still looking for its first championship.

This year's winning cover was carried into Stockholm in the king's Royal Carriage, with King Gustav and Queen Sofia along for the ride. As always, we thank the Royal Family for their generous patronage.




Due to a mishap in the front office, no venue was reserved in advance for this year's ceremony, so all involved had to make do with an impromptu event on a busy street corner. King Gustav was present to represent the royal family. Mayor McCheese filled in for his good friend Grimace, who had a scheduling conflict. (He's in a bowling league with Cookie Monster, and they have a playoff match today.) The Mayor and the King were joined by Mr. Met, the ghost of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, and CPF receptionist and reality show star Maja, resplendent in a billowy black dress.




As is customary, the winning cover is now on display in the lobby of the Kran Pool Forum Internationella Huvudkontoret, the CPF's International Headquarters. After the ceremony, Maja changed her clothes and returned to her post at the reception desk. In the foreground, we see Matias, 2024's Intern of the Year. Matias is a bit of a prodigy, at a very young age he was able to make key contributions in both the Accounting and Public Relations departments.

Last year's winner, THEY DON'T GOT IT, has joined its predecessors on display at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where the nine covers are protected around the clock by an armed member of the Swedish Royal Guard. The exhibit, Tabloid Omslagsderby Mästerskapsgalleri, is once again sponsored by the Slate and Gravel Corporation of Bedrock.



As a result of his appearance on the winning cover, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has been awarded a gigantic box of Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco Treat. (Pete can choose to opt out of the Rice-A-Roni in October. If he does so, he will be compensated with a giant box of Noodle Roni.) For being on the second-place cover, Sean Manaea will receive a copy of the Tabloid Cover Derby Home Game, available for sale wherever deeply unpopular toys and games are sold.

I enjoy the the box- and landscape-aligned versions of the cover.

Amazing that Grimace was busy but Ingrid Bergman is always free.

Crazy that Post has yet to win one--and that Newsday won so many. As institutions go I would guess the Post is the healthiest of them today.

This is wonderful, right down to the ghost of Captain Kangaroo wandering around the lobby!

I kept OCD-track of my voting is year and no votes for OMG.

But it's fun, and we are lucky that Ben is good camp counselor.

Are the models all notable personages or are they mostly working stiffs doing their thing for scale?

Jerry Seinfeld and Grimace are somewhat well-known, but all of the others are models for whom this, so far, has been their biggest break. Marissa and Shelby, who we see in the final image, from Yosemite, are our longest-serving models.

I feel like I know the tall one who switches between the long, red evening gown and the white trousers and sleeveless blouse.

Has she been around the office?

All I know is that her name is Sandra.

At least, that's what they tell me.

Awesome job. I really must get to Stockholm one of these days.

Do we know the name of the gentleman sleeping on the floor near Maja? Is she safe? The intern and ghost of Captain Kangaroo might not be able to protect her.

There's a security guard standing in the back, near the revolving door.

And don't underestimate those ducklings! They're fierce!

I'm just glad Pete is back. Would be awkward to present him with his award if he were playing for the Blue Jays. Kind of like RA Dickey and his Cy Young Award.

Every year, I make sure to soak in this post at a desktop, with plenty of time to soak in the details. Love it.

The covers are up and down, but BG hits a HR every year.

Nice to see Rice-a-Roni increase their portion size. It always left you wanting a little more.
