Schaefer Year Fifteen

I just realized I forgot to post my annual announcement about how Schaefer voting will continue.

So here it is: Schaefer voting will continue, mainly because it's so automated that I don't really have to do very much.

I'll continue to post the "This game is now available for Schaefer voting" graphic (like the one below) in the IGT threads as appropriate.

And I'll post a notice in this thread every couple of weeks when I'm about to close down the voting on a block of games.

I may also post the Player of the Month announcements here too, since the individual threads for each month haven't gotten much attention lately.

Will I keep making the 1970s baseball cards to go with the announcements? Probably, because I enjoy doing those, but maybe not if the mood doesn't strike me.

Cast your votes here.

DeGrom start likely to yield zero points. That's unusual.

Hey, first off, thanks again for running this, and like all the other stuff too. Sometimes I sit there and think "OMG what happens if BG gets hit by a bus".

Anyway, I love the cards. But for me, the 80's era Topps cards hold that same emotional value. Any chance to mix in some of them? '84 Topps is my favorite card ever. '87 Topps and the wood trim might be the worst card ever, but it memorializes the championship season.

You're welcome! And I will try not to get hit by a bus! (Where I live, getting hit by a train is probably more likely anyway.)

I think, though, that I'm going to stick with the 1970s, because that was my decade for baseball cards. I continued buying cards into the early 1990s, but that was out of habit, not passion. When I see cards from the 70s, I sometimes smell bubble gum. I don't get that reaction from cards from other decades.

I'm going to be traveling until the middle of next week, so I won't be able to post box scores to the UMDB, which means that Schaefer voting for the next few games will be delayed, probably until next Thursday. I expect that I'll be able to post the Magazine Cover Derby polls, however, because I've already saved them as drafts and can post them from my phone.

The Schaeferbot believes Jacob deGrom pitched for an inning Sunday when in fact deGrom's participation was limited to completing Jason Vargas's at-bat after Vargas left the game with a leg cramp (Jake walked).

Likewise, the Schaeferbot has a hard time picking out pitchers' hitting performances, as Steven Matz's home run on Friday does not show up in its box score.

This isn't to say we don't love and appreciate the Schaeferbot. It's just that it sometimes gets a little confused.
