Is Villar as dark a horse to come in as PotM as ever?

Who else are candidates? Francouer ... Buck ... Byrd? At least those guys were expected to be regulars.

I'm still having trouble accepting that I live in a world where Tim Redding was Pitcher of the Month.

Tim Redding and Jeff Francoeur, both from September 2009. Redding won in a landslide, well ahead of Mike Pelfrey (5.92 ERA) and Pat Misch (6.35)

Looking back, the real question may be how Jerry Manuel survived that September.
