The ex-president made sure to replace competent professionals with loyalists throughout his entire regime, so I'm sure he did the same with the Secret Service agents who led and directly protected him.
So it comes a no surprise that those individuals (or maybe just some key ones) made sure the information (I'm guessing emails and hard copies as well as texts) surrounding the events leading up to and including January 6th have been (intentionally) erased.

Except Secret Service agents are civil servants and not political appointees, so an agent putting the president's political interests above their duties would be far, far more egregious.

Of course. As a group, by the nature of their job they are intensely patriotic and dedicated. But I'm also convinced the ones directly involved in his protection were deeply vetted as to their political leanings to determine which of them would go beyond their sworn duties to support him. And those were the ones chosen to his team.

That's certainly in play.

And if that principle has won out, it's far, far more egregious.

It's sort of why I want The Homeland Security Committee on the case, so the January 6 Committee can focus on the gross malfeasance of the political actors.

On the other hand, it's not like the Homeland Security Committee has successfully cleaned up after the last three-to-five Secret Service shitstorms.

Because I'm a roll this also reminds me there are stories I haven't thought about a long time involving the same guy. One is like when we both were in 6th grade? and is set in a gym locker room which is funny and also, not what you think, yet also, I'll never tell anyone anyway.

Others involve that he was a drummer, and are set a few years later, and only require the right prompt, and this Secret Service isn't it.

Texts also missing from Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and Acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli.

It's been known since February but not reported outside of DHS. The official account is that their phones were wiped at the end of their tenure.

The Post isn't leading with it, but we also have a story about the phones of top Pentagon officials being wiped as well.

It is certainly true that less than three weeks later, a new administration came in and many of those officials were turning in their stuff at the end of their tenures so you can put some credulity behind everything getting wiped as a matter of (dumb) policy.

But these are the two departments responsible for national safety, three weeks after an existential assault on the nation, led from the inside. Credulity gets strained.

Governments have records laws the clearly spell out which records need to be retained from which public employees and for how long they need to be retained. They either followed these laws or they didn't, there's no wiggle room here.

Someone should leak that Hillary texted some of those secret service agents, bet the records would show up mighty fast.

Gross incompetence only takes you so far. This is a coverup. And I'd like to know if these text messages are recoverable. Because if they are, shit's gonna hit the fan.

Exhibit #934 on the utterly dysfunctional and insane closing weeks of the Trump administration and the interactions between him and his top military staff. This is some madness.

Wow.
It turned out that the generals had rules, standards, and expertise, not blind loyalty. The President’s loud complaint to John Kelly one day was typical: “You fucking generals, why can’t you be like the German generals?”

“Which generals?” Kelly asked.

“The German generals in World War II,” Trump responded.

“You do know that they tried to kill Hitler three times and almost pulled it off?” Kelly said.

But, of course, Trump did not know that. “No, no, no, they were totally loyal to him,” the President replied. In his version of history, the generals of the Third Reich had been completely subservient to Hitler; this was the model he wanted for his military. Kelly told Trump that there were no such American generals, but the President was determined to test the proposition.

Yeah, that's a long piece and it's a horror show long before it gets to the closing weeks.

Trump has no concept of history at all. It's like he settled on the version of history a kid might have learned from watching Looney Tunes cartoons.

Nothing this piece of shit does would shock me. The only thing that's shocking or surprising about this latest report is that some people are still shocked by what he does or did. He's a heartless, feral psychopath who only cares about himself and he's capable of anything, no matter how vile or loathsome the act is. He has no boundaries and I'm angry that people didn't see this before Election Day 2016.

Not only is he capable of anything, but I expect the absolute worst, most corrupt and outrageous self-dealing from him no matter what situation he's placed in. If he's ever tried in a criminal court, for anything, there's no doubt that he'll avoid a guilty verdict because he'll definitely fix the jury rather than roll the dice on a fair and honest jury verdict. That's for suckers, sez him. And he'll do it, too, because he's about as powerful and connected as anybody on the entire planet.

I fully expect that before he can be tried and convicted that Trump will flee to one of his properties abroad and die in exile. I'm sure he has a jet ready to bug out.

I would too. But I also expect that, as the article concluded, he's not clever enough to pull that off.

His first choice, the Epstein jet, is probably not accessible to him anymore though.
