Sports reference coming up, prepare to Google as needed. It is Happy Hour in the Gehenna Bar and Grille. Eddie Cicotte and Chick Gandil watch the news on the TV above the bar, nod knowingly, and they buy Jack Molinas another drink. From the Washington Post:

[In other words, "the fix was in]".

[***]

And there we have it. Judge Cannon has divined the identity of…The Real Victim. He’s down there in Florida, deeply a’skeered that his alleged crimes are coming to light and deeply worried about the effect this will have in the future on his various bunco schem—er…enterprises.

And to hell with you, National Archives, you bunch of reckless barbarians.

[***]

I would like to ban the use of the word “unprecedented” from further discussion. It is a preposterous word in this context and is becoming more so almost by the hour. Saying anything that has occurred in national politics since the fall of 2015 is “unprecedented” is like standing in the foothills of the Himalayas and talking about the “unprecedented” size of Mt. Everest. While admittedly the inevitable product of 40 years of increasingly virulent Republican vandalism, El Caudillo del Mar-A-Lago nonetheless was a creature of the unprecedented, at least among presidents of the United States: A bigger liar than Nixon. More inept than Harding. More devious than LBJ. And, oh, that he were as forgettable as Buchanan or Pierce. But we can’t have everything, now, can we?

I hope Jared can clear his calendar for the next few months because being special master is going to be a full-time gig.

The highest level of our government has been rendered an unconvincing puppet show with no mystery left in it at all.
https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/p ... al-master/

When you have the courts, you have everything. It's like tactically, occupying the highest ground in a military conflict. And every judge counts. Even a lower court District Court judge confirmed during Trump's lame duck session.

Also, that Jared line is killer. Pierce doesn't live in fairy tale land, like Amy Klobuchar, for example. He tells it like it is. Pierce is the only member of the media that I'm aware of who recognizes the near certainty that now, through the special master to be appointed, Trump is gonna get all of the intelligence delivered to him on a silver platter. He's gonna know exactly what the DOJ's investigation is about, what their investigative methods are and most critically, who snitched him out to enable the Mar-a-Lago search warrant in the first place.

This was about as absurd a legal decision as there could possibly be.

The removal of New Mexico's Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin from office under the 14th Amendment seemed like a small bit of justice and an interesting sidenote, but this evening, it's kind of feeling like an important precedent. I imagine there will be an appeal, but it's the first time a public official has been removed under Section 3 of Amendment 14, since 1869, and perhaps more importantly, the first time a court has ruled what occurred on 1/6/2021 to be an insurrection.

If he appeals and loses, the precedent gains more weight.

It will probably be more nothing (or at least nothing relevant to this thread), but this is raising eyebrows.

I'm glad you see it. To me it looks like I'm talking about nothing. Anyhow, the announcement has been moved to 11:30am.

But this is the way of things. At least the lawyers get paid. Well, half of them, anyhow.

Speaking of *yawn*...
Team Trump wrote:“Today’s filing is neither focused on the facts nor the law – rather, it is solely focused on advancing the Attorney General’s political agenda. It is abundantly clear that the Attorney General’s Office has exceeded its statutory authority by prying into transactions where absolutely no wrongdoing has taken place.”

I read that Donald Jr. used it in a tweet while the AG's press conference was still on.

From the presser:
“I am announcing today that we are filing a lawsuit against Donald Trump for violating the law as part of his efforts to generate profits for himself, his family and his company,” James said. “The complaint demonstrates that Donald Trump falsely inflated his net worth by billions of dollars to unjustly enrich himself and to cheat the system, thereby cheating all of us.”

The civil lawsuit seeks at least $250 million in damages.

“Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization repeatedly and persistently manipulated the value of assets to induce banks to lend money to the Trump Organization on more favorable terms than would otherwise have been available to the company, to pay lower taxes, to satisfy continuing loan agreements and to induce insurance companies to provide insurance coverage for higher limits and at lower premiums,”

An interesting article about how Trump has survived decades of legal trouble (paywall)

The 11th US Circuit Court of Appeal makes a ruling overturning Judge Cannon's order that the investigation cease and the government not be allowed to review the designated "classified" documents they seized.

So the investigation is back on and it's been a very rough day for people named Trump.

And what also made it interesting is that the Appeals Court (two of the three judges Trump appointees) slammed Judge Cannon for the lack of legal grounds for her order.
