The Scent of Musk (split from Off the Cuff and Whatnot - 2022)

Post by Frayed Knot » Sun Jul 31, 2022 4:08 pm

I'm thinking that when the writers of The Jetsons picked that date it seemed so far into the future that they likely never imagined that anyone would even remember the show much less be able to note the actual date.

Is there a possibility that Elon Musk is nutty as a squirrel?

That's the old line, right?
Your rich uncle is eccentric; your poor uncle is just a fuckin' nut case.

Maybe all of this asking people online how to manage his company is all a smokescreen. I know this shouldn't be that surprising, but the thought that a guy would drop $44 billion on a company without having a business plan is a challenge for me even to conceive.

Twitter is my main social media outlet. It's turned into something of a shitshow with EVERYBODY either complaining about Musk or egging him on.

It's like a bar at the end of the night's closing time. It was a fun place for a while, but know it's just loud voices with questionable opinions on what to do next. Elon seems to be encouraging everyone to make the after party darker than I'm interested in.

I'm test driving Post. It's nice...maybe a bit too polite, but it's clean and they're working bugs out in real time. Seems to be bot free for now...refreshing.

I deactivated my account last week. It got really gross and distracting for all the reasons you said. I haven't missed twitter, but I've missed the info and the people in the feed I cobbled together over the years. Have not found a singular place to get the same kinda stuff that is close to a replacement, sadly. I couldn't even figure out how to register an account as Mastodon. Maybe Post is worth checking out. Less social is also a great thing.

for me the benefits and flow of information far outweighed some of the drawbacks, especially since those things exist literally everywhere else too. It does seem like many have already left, making it less beneficial though, which is bound to happen when a supremely stupid pedophile billionaire racist buys the place. See also: 2016-2020 America.

There's just nowhere else that has that "water cooler" feel to it, and all the various options are just going to fracture something that's power was in it's ubiquitousness

Is there evidence to back up the "pedophile" accusation?

I have three Twitter accounts. One is my namesake here, which many of
the people reading this are related to however that whole things works. I
set one up that prolly a few here know as my 'real life' account but that was
more just to reserve the 'name' many moons ago. I also set up an account
for the NYC SABR chapter of which I am an admin @sabrrnyc (or is it #) and
there were some plans to maybe start using it but with the recent shitshow
I'm back-burner-ing that for the time being I guess.

I really don't get it. Wouldn't care if it went away tomorrow.

Or Musk for that matter.

Like Seo, Mastodon doesn't make any sense to me, and I'm Post-waitlisted.

I mostly scroll and don't participate in the twitter personally; for work I developed a pretty big audience who wanted to hear me tweet and was briefly considering getting blue-checked before this crap came up.

Twitter has been a mess , but it seems especially so the last several days , like , Correa is still trending but it's old news, live sports scores don't show , the timeline is a mess. Feels like it's on its last legs

Why is there a wait list? It's not very 'long!'

I'm on Post, but strictly as a lurker. Every alternative to Twitter seems to have its drawbacks, and there's a diaspora right now. Some alternative will have to emerge, but it hasn't yet.

Do we really think that Twitter is going to disappear? Even My Space and Excite continue to exist. I don't think it will go away, but it can certainly end up losing a lot of its relevance. Nice job there by Elon Musk!

Apparently a world wide outage last night and Musk replies to a user " it works for me " 😂

I also reserved my current Twitter user name on Spill. I'm on Mastodon too but as Ceetar has pointed out, it's missing most of the users. Really at this point I only use Twitter to follow Mets/LGM hashtag chatter. None of the other sites have enough active users to make that a comparable gesture.

Elon a toilet of a person. So I guess the scent of musk would be a bit fertilizer-y.
