Walt Cunningham is a fond reminder of a time when a good astronaut always wore a cravat, along with a haircut you could rest your beer on.

Adam had previously participated in the faking of his death as a publicity gimmick for Might magazine. I imagine this one is for real.G-Fafif wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 4:21 pm Adam Rich of Eight is Enough fame, 54.

Author Russell Banks, age 82, from cancer.
Wrote a number of novels nominated for the Pulitzer, several of which I read and enjoyed. I'm partial specifically to Rule of the Bone, which is a coming of age story, as well as Cloudsplitter (a fictional biography of John Brown as told by a surviving son) and The Darling.
Also wrote the books on which the films The Sweet Hereafter and Affliction were based.

That is sad. I've also read a number of his books. Saw him speak once as well. Always worth reading.

'Diamond' of 'Diamond and Silk' fame. I guess it's just 'Silk' now. No cause of death yet, but she was an ardent vaccine denier.

Even duct tape can't fix stupid. But it can sure muffle the sound.

Little Steven's Underground Garage has been pimping the hell out of traxx from a recent Jeff Beck/Johnny Depp collaboration. I've found them to be a tough listen, but I'm kinda allergic to Depp and his musical ambitions.
Bacterial meningitis is a beast that can wipe you out pretty quickly. Survivors frequently don't come out whole.
There's little that can be said about Beck that hasn't been said. More than once I've heard older music fans say that when Led Zeppelin started, they were seen as copycats of The Jeff Beck Group.
I love that he played almost exclusively with his fingers, and still was one of the handful of guitarists whose tone and texture you knew instantly. I love that he had a lot of weird, cross-genre collaborations (Depp aside). I love that, without Jeff Beck, there would have been no Nigel Tufnel.

Even beyond the musical similarities, which I believe are quite striking and obvious, the very first studio session for Truth gave Jimmy Page the name Led Zeppelin which he would use a year later you know where.
That session yielded Beck's Bolero, an instrumental that would eventually find it's way on Truth. This session was pre Rod Stewart but included future Zeppeliner John Paul Jones. Jimmy Page produced it and Keith Moon guested on drums. The session went over so well that the group briefly considered forming a new group. Moon contemplated leaving The Who. That band would've taken the name Led Zeppelin. Or perhaps, Lead Zeppelin.

So Priscilla Presley, now 77, was, though divorced by that point, widowed at age 32, and has now outlived one of her two children (Lisa Marie has a half-brother)
as well as one of her four grandchildren (Lisa's son was a suicide in 2020).
That's a bit of a rough ride.
Bad week or so also for drummers as the skin pounders for Modest Mouse, BTO, and Earth Wind & Fire, all died recently.
Stay safe Ringo.

What did she ever actually do, aside from have famous parents? I mean, if her last name was Smith no one would have ever heard of her. Celebrity inherited, meh.
I'm not saying it's not sad, having your dad die when you're 9, or dying at 54 and losing a son to suicide, it's all tragic, but I always reject this country's celebrity obsession. It's a Kardashian sized world and I want no part of it.
