Twenty-Three Skiddoo: Brett Baty
Twenty-Three Skiddoo: Brett Baty
As if Twenty-Three Skiddoo wasn't already America's favorite Crane Pool thread category, we now move on to me, Brett Baty. That's correct — despite not currently having a regular position assignment or even a likelihood of making the opening day roster, ZiPS has me predicted to put up the seventh most WAR on the 2023 Mets team.
That's an average WAR of 3.2 in all their simulations. That's an average all right, but it is enough to put me in instant contention for Rookie of the Year!
That may be ambitious. Mets GM Billy Eppler said I was called up last year because the Mets were in a situational need for a lefty bat, not because I had completed my minor leaguing, and that's only fair, considering I only spent six games with Syracuse.
But hey, I (a) homered in my first at-bat, (b) reached the bigs before Mark Vientos, and (c) have that ZiPS prediction going for me.
You're smarter than ZiPS, I think. What do you say?

I don't have a feel yet for how this is all to play out with this roster.

Re: Twenty-Three Skiddoo: Brett Baty
I'm not sure what to think here. I would like to see Baty get over 400 plate appearances and be a Rookie-of-the-Year candidate, but I'm not sure how that happens without Escobar failing, and I don't want that to happen. Throw in Mauricio and Vientos, and I have no idea what to expect.
Re: Twenty-Three Skiddoo: Brett Baty
Yeah, hard to see where to plays much at all , especially if Escobar has a hot start
Re: Twenty-Three Skiddoo: Brett Baty
Well, the way things are rolling, he might end up initially stealing appearances from the DH and left field contingents, directly or indirectly.

My stat line was authored by David Wright's freshman year. He was a mid-season callup and maybe Baty is too

It's possible Baty starts the season in the minors ?

I think there's a good chance of that.
