Not satire, but I feel like it's similar to his Kate Bush conundrum, where he thought she was a slam dunk, too. As a Gen X'er, maybe he over-inflates the influence of a band from his formative years in the eyes of other voters (which he funnily accused other voters of doing, too). I don't feel like JD/NO is a shoo-in either. BUT I will say I've seen similar in baseball HOF voting, where guys will throw their votes behind someone to try and keep them on the ballot instead of supporting someone else who, in their eyes, will definitely get in this year or the next.metirish wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:41 pmA Boy Named Seo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 5:12 pm My favorite rock writer reveals his HOF ballot:

Is this satire? He's voting NO for Joy Division/ New Order because they don't need his vote ?
Anyway, agree hugely on Zvon

Re: Kids In The Hall: RNR HOF Nominees 2023
Yeah I guess, don't particularly like his RATM No and Soundgarden YES ( I was never a big Soundgarden fan though)
Re: Kids In The Hall: RNR HOF Nominees 2023
Interesting to see WZ running away with the vote in these quarters.

Although considering that most are either non-performers, or they're too old, or they're too dead, the performance part of the night will be exceedingly short
and/or non-existent, so maybe not so long after all.
And Still no Warren Zevon!
Or, while we're on the topic and the boundaries of what constitutes R&R has been totally bulldozed anyway, where's Gordon Lightfoot?

Gordon Lightfoot unquestionably rawks a lot more than, say, George Michael.
Didn't "Rumble" get some kind of special induction as a classic rock song a few years back? I always thought the unstated message there was "your one-hit wonder song goes in, but it takes more than one hit for YOU to get in, Broseph." So I'm surprised to see Link Wray go in.
How is it that Jethro Tull doesn't even get on a ballot?

A lot of wonderful acts, but not a lot of rock 'n' roll content, in that class.

Wasn't in last year's class either, and probably not a ton going forward either.

Re: Kids In The Hall: RNR HOF Nominees 2023
Last year was a minor renaissance. Inductees honored as performers included Pat Benatar (63% rock 'n' roll content), Duran Duran (47%), Eminem (3%), Eurythmics (53%), Judas Priest (92%) Dolly Parton (4%), Lionel Richie (14%, not counting The Commodores), and Carly Simon (12%).Frayed Knot wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 2:09 pm Wasn't in last year's class either, and probably not a ton going forward either.

Re: Kids In The Hall: RNR HOF Nominees 2023
Compare this year:
⭐️George Michael (15%)
⭐️Sheryl Crow (55%)
⭐️Willie Nelson (5%)
⭐️Missy Elliott (2%)
⭐️Kate Bush (11%)
⭐️The Spinners (13%)
⭐️Rage Against the Machine (81%)
⭐️Chaka Khan (19%)
⭐️Link Wray (99%)
Not as bad as I thought on reflection. I included Judas Priest as performers last year even though they were inducted with the "Award for Musical Excellence," because come on. So I'm including Link Wray in this account even though I think he's being inducted as an "early influence."

Jann Wenner — who from my perspective has embodied about 80% of what has gone wrong with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — has been removed from Hall's board following some embarrassingly incendiary comments.
