Oh. Then how is Greg Maddux the 80% answer for 300/gg and also 40% the right answer for braves 300?

Oh. Wait. I’m dumb. That’s of the correct answers for each square, independently.

So the people guessing Maddux in one may not be getting the right answer in the other.

That’s what I thought at first, but the stats led me astray.

Got 8 today. Never did think of a STL/CIN connection on my own but needed two guesses to get the A's 200 hit guy (apparently Rickey Henderson never even exceeded 180 hits in any season of his career).

Immaculate Grid 91 8/9:

🟩🟩🟩
⬜️🟩🟩
🟩🟩🟩

STL/BAL - Todd Zeile 1%
BAL/CWS - Albert Belle 13%
BAL/200H - Cal Ripken Jr. 90%
CIN/STL
CIN/CWS - Ken Griffey Jr 32%
CIN/200H - Pete Rose 90%
STL/OAK - Mark McGwire 51%
OAK/CWS - Frank Thomas 17%
OAK/200H - Napoleon LaJoie 3%

Darren O'Day is apparently not a bird that is a cardinal/oriole hybrid.

Adam Laroche is apparently not a piece of hosiery that is both a white sock and red stocking.

Carney Lansford is apparently not an athletic who garnered 200 hits in a season.

All of that is disappointing, but it's mostly offset by delight in successfully experimenting as to whether a St. Louis Brown can be passed off as a Baltimore Oriole. Apparently, yes!

Paul Konerko is a good one. I'm not particularly sure I wasn't thinking of Paul Konerko when I guessed Adam LaRoche. I conflate that way.

Rickey Henderson was the first player that came to me for 200 hits/A's. But I doubted he'd ever gotten 200 hits in a season what with the number of walks he typically drew in a season. If he ever did get 200 hits in a season, I figgered his OBP would be at .500 or close to it for that season. So I went with Nap Lajoie instead. Immaculate.

today was the first time i saw this. is the goal to pick players with the lowest % you can guess they'll have? otherwise why would you possibly think of half those players?

If you want it to be. Or your goal could be to pick the most common answers (highest rarity score(s))*. Or no rarity score goal - just pick right answers.
nymr83 wrote: Mon Jul 03, 2023 4:46 pm otherwise why would you possibly think of half those players?
Me: early 70s are, I guess, my wheelhouse from baseball card collecting and Strat-o-Matic playing. Today, I could still rattle off 20 or so 1971 Atlanta Braves almost instantly, but probably couldn't name more than two (or one) 2023 Ray.

Can't believe no one got Seaver.

*Highest rarity score might not work so well, on second thought: You get 100 rarity points for each wrong answer so zero right answers out of nine would yield the highest possible rarity score - 900.

I got a perfect nine for only the second time today, and a "Rarity Score" of only 5! Eight of my nine guesses came in at under one percent, and the remaining guess scored a two percent.

Orioles/Cubs: Milt Pappas 0.5%
Orioles/Indians: Jesse Orosco 0.2%
Orioles/.300: George Sisler (of the St. Louis Browns) 0.8%
Mets/Cubs: Richie Ashburn 0.2%
Mets/Indians: Phil Hennigan 0.02%
Mets/.300: Cleon Jones 0.7%
Mariners/Cubs: Steve Henderson 0.08%
Mariners/Indians: Jay Bruce 2%
Mariners/.300: Alvin Davis 0.3%

My Oriole Cub was Damon Buford. I was pretty pleased with myself for that, but the rest was unremarkable.

I like that Jay Bruce was your most common selection.

I gave up. My first answer (which was for Oriole/Indian) was Boog Powell. I wasn't given proper credit and was docked a guess. I tried again. Still, no go. I couldn't figure out what the fuck was going on. This was a no-doubter. Horseshit, I called. I mean, who could forget Boog in those all-beet-red top to bottom Cleveland mid 70s unis? Fucking Boog looked like a goddamn fire truck in those threads.

Turns out there were two different Boog Powells. I was clicking on the other one.

So I quit. Fuck that.

i couldn't draw the name omar vizquel from my memory hole, and then, fresh out of confidence and full of frustration, whiffed on the cub/o and the cub/m.

any time i need to feel bad about myself, i play immaculate grid.

alou (5%), baerga (3%), and mcsquirrel (25%) were my mets. at least i fucking got those ones right.

I had to be careful to click on the correct Jose Reyes for my .300 Met hitter. Olerud was the first .300 Met to come to mind, but I used him as a Mariner figuring that I'd be able to come up with another Met more easily than another Mariner.

Only 1% picked Olerud as the Mariner. 85% for Ichiro last I looked, and most of the rest likely went with Edgar Martinez.

I kept it Metly by picking Melvin Mora as the .300 hitting Oriole.

Andres Giménez (5%) was my Met/Guardian. I just got a Giménez bobblehead for a friend's daughter at a game a couple of weeks ago.

Went with Javier Baez as the Met/Cub, and got a thumbs down for the other squares.

Thought about Carlos Santana as the Guardian/Mariner, as Santana spent much of his career wearing 41 for the Guards and has since been everywhere, but I made some other wrong guess. I kept thinking of Don Buford as an Oriole who probably played elsewhere, but didn't manage to pull his son out of the depths of my brain.

You know what is funny? I spaced on Francisco Lindor! I put Baerga in there and was like "how the heck is he only 3%?"

I went with Baerga also.

Like-named folks can be distinguished by years, but on one or two, I've gotten the date and the name wrong, looking for Felix Hernandez and accidentally selecting some guy named Felipe Hernandez or something of that nature. Sloppy is sloppy.

what the hell even is a devil ray!?

so many good metly connections that i whiffed on, it's pretty amazing that i managed to get 7 correct given my awfulness.

granted, i shot myself in the dick by picking david price as my LAD/TBR instead of as the TBR/200k. shane mcclanahan, my guess, topped out at 194. damnit.
and then i couldn't for the life of me pull out the name of any astroray. maybe i need to shuffle through some old baseball cards before playing this stupid game lol.

The first Phillie/Dodger to pop into my head was Face Buttley. I typed his name in but it didn't come up. Stupid wonky game.
