This made me think that if twitter were around when the character Joel Fleischman was in Alaska, it wouldn't have been him tweeting this either, it woulda been some other Joel.

I've heard enough from that account to know that judging someone 28 minutes into his NYM tenure indicates someone whose brain sucks as a vital organ.

The 2000 team I feel wasn't as good as the 1999 version.
2006 was the most complete offensive team. Their pitching injuries let them down at the end. They could have won the World Series that year if they'd gotten past game 7 against the Cards.
2015 was 6 magical weeks from Cespedes, followed by 10 magical days from Daniel Murphy. That magic didn't show up in the World Series, though.
2022 was a disappointment all around, just not showing up when they needed it the most.

I'd roll with 2006, followed closely by 2015.

The Harry Chiti thing likely wasn't prearranged.

I think that's the question. Is it allowed to designate the PTBNL in the way suggested above? It may or may not be.

I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think it should matter. You could make that trade if it wasn't prearranged, but not if it was prearranged? Why not? What's the worry?

I would guess JV would have to waive his no-trade clause twice. It's a pretty fun idea, very close to a soccer-style loan.

I think a guy that is signed (and knows he's signed, and the public knows he's signed) to one team for this year and another team for next year, would be a worrisome precedent that I imagine MLB wouldn't allow, considering the conflicts of interest that you can foresee and the conflicts of interest that you can't foresee.

If such a deal exists and the PtBNL isn't made public could change that concern, but given enough time, the identity of Ps-tbNL tend to almost always leak (if the teams have settled on a figure).

Are you saying that a Chiti type deal should be permitted, but not if it's prearranged? Or that even a Chiti type deal should be banned? I'm good with the second one, but not the first. If teams could do a Chiti, they should also be able to do a prearranged Chiti. Who wants to get into litigating intent and all of that?

I'm not sure what should be permitted. I just think MLB wouldn't want it and I suspect they have some regulation about it. I assume that when a PtBNL deal is made, the terms are reported to MLB and they know whether it's a specific player or a selection from a pool of players that will be made later. I don't know, though.

The Chiti deal, I imagine, wasn't pre-planned as it worked out, but instead came about when the actual plan fell through. The player that the Indians were aiming at had gotten hurt or arrested, and the league had to sign off on the return. But obviously, it was a very different time. But we can ask Dom Chiti if he can provide any insight.

I got the impression that the Chiti trade wasn't really a trade at all but rather a loan that got called a trade when the NY press got a hold of it.

Mets did lots if " conditional" transactions back then
