I got Endy Chavez thanks to today's Royals card thread. I had forgotten that Endy'd played for KC.

I looked at today's grid for about 30 seconds and then closed it because I'd get as many by not trying as I would if I stared at it for the next 257 hours trying to think of those two team matches.

Shoulda went with Bake McBride instead of Fred Lynn. Then I woulda had three straight NL ROYs (1974-76).

That box took me the longest to solve. I got my first six answers immediately, just as soon as I saw the puzzle. The entire HR column; the entire Dodger row, plus a coupl'a extra Dodgers- Mike Piazza and Davey Lopes -- and then Claudell Washington. It took me about an hour to solve the rest of today's grid. Not all at once. Like 10 minutes on the PC and then onto other stuff, but with the grid in the back of my mind. Then back to the PC for another 10 or so minutes. Then away. Until I finally solved it. And then, like five minutes after I posted my solution for today here, I thought of another ATL/SD - Danny Frisella.

The Washington Nationals boxes get easier when you mentally replace the logo.

I thought this was going to be really easy, until I found out that Carl Yastrzemski never won a silver slugger... 8 of 9

Eight out of nine. I screwed up what was probably the easiest cell in IG history -- a HOFer who hit 500 HRs. But Willie Stargell, it turns out, was 25 HRs short of the milestone.

you seem to intentionally make it harder on yourself though (trying for low percentages on purpose?) Ruth, Bonds, Mays etc easily fit multiple cells here with little thought

Exactly. I mean, it killed me to type in Ted Williams. But that's what I meant when I said that it was the easiest cell ever.

Yaz certainly would have won the Silver Slugger award multiple times had the award existed during his prime years. But the SS award debuted in 1980.

I also enjoyed the team-less grid. For once the 9 AM debut worked to my favor as I was busy all day yesterday and I'm just finishing it this morning.

300/500 - Ted Williams 18%
500/GG - Willie Mays 15%

GG/SS - Scott Rolen 2%
SS/HOF - Jeter 11%

I've never had 8 easy answers come to me this quickly, but the 9th box is killing me today

still thinking and avoiding this thread until i make my guess.
