Re: Immaculate Grid
Got an eight today. I didn't get a chance to guess at Twins/Mariners because I had an incorrect guess of Tom Brunansky for Twins/Phillies.
Phillies/Twins: Cesar Tovar 0.4%
Phillies/Braves: Bruce Chen 0.6%
Phillies/All-Star: Mike Schmidt 8%
Mariners/Twins: --
Mariners/Braves: Ken Griffey 8%
Mariners/All-Star: Alex Rodriguez 4%
MVP/Twins: Harmon Killebrew 16%
MVP/Braves: Hank Aaron 20%
MVP/All-Star: Willie Mays 1%
Phillies/Twins: Cesar Tovar 0.4%
Phillies/Braves: Bruce Chen 0.6%
Phillies/All-Star: Mike Schmidt 8%
Mariners/Twins: --
Mariners/Braves: Ken Griffey 8%
Mariners/All-Star: Alex Rodriguez 4%
MVP/Twins: Harmon Killebrew 16%
MVP/Braves: Hank Aaron 20%
MVP/All-Star: Willie Mays 1%

I can only play IG on my PC. The game is always unplayable on my smartphone. Anyone else have this issue?

Re: Immaculate Grid
I had the rare Grid Immaculata today ... but of course that was helped out by the NYM being one of the categories.
I still had trouble thinking of a Brewer/Met. Even 2023 Mets Daniel Vogelbach didn't occur to me and neither did Mark
Canha because A) I didn't think of either, and B) in the case of Cahna I already forgot where we traded him so even thinking
of him wouldn't have helped.
Jeromy Burnitz and Mike Cameron came to mind but I didn't want to use them as I had an inkling I might need them elsewhere.
So it then occurred to me that the Brewers were also the Seattle Pilots so I started thinking of characters from BALL FOUR
and quickly hit upon Greg Goossen for a 0.04% recognition score.
Adam Dunn occurred to me quickly for the CIN/WAS square, I thought of Ian Desmond for WAS/COL but I couldn't think of
his name at first; I could picture him but it took a minute or so of thought before his name finally registered.
That left me with CIN/MIL and COL/MIL where, devoid of any other options, I guessed both Burnitz and Cameron and, to my
great surprise, discovered them both to be correct, hence immaculateness.

Re: Immaculate Grid
I had the exact same thought process with Goossen, and of course I remembered the "in ten years he has a chance to be thirty" anecdote, but I wasn't sure if he'd actually ever made a Mets regular season roster. So I spent a few minutes trying to remember that guy who was one of my favorite Mets like two months ago but was traded to Milwaukee at the deadline...and damned near put down Escobar before remembering it was Canha.Frayed Knot wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 6:52 pm

Got 7. Couldn't come up with any other Brewer combos.

Re: Immaculate Grid
Uhhh ..... yeah. It would be cheating any other way, wouldn't it? I had an unbelievable memory as a kid and I spent a good deal of my youth poring over and constantly handling and looking at baseball cards. That's definitely where this comes from.
I'm kind of just like you. If this game were limited to players who played only during the last 30 years or so, I'd be one of the worst players around. But I'd still be able to dominate any Mets columns or rows. A lot of this also comes from making those card threads over the years that I've revived during these past few weeks. That's definitely how I got Strohmayer and Reynolds.
Too bad Brian Ostrosser played for only the Mets.
I got eight of today's nine answers almost immediately, as soon as I looked at today's grid. I didn't even have to think, really. The answers just come to me, without effort. And for the Reds/Expos-Nats cell, I came up with more than half a dozen players instantly.
The answer that I had to work for today was the Rockies/Brewers cell. Post 90s expansion teams are my weak spot. Recently, I've been able to counter this to some degree, by memorizing some players who played for many teams and also for several of the 90s expansion teams -- players like Chad Qualls, Fernando Rodney and Latroy Hawkins. They've come up frequently in my solutions.
I'm not sure how much fun that is, though -- solving puzzles by memorizing players specifically for IG. It'd be OK to do that, I suppose, if I were competing in a real cutthroat IG tournament. But it's a lot more fun to come up with an answer more naturally, without having had to study players BBRef stat lines specifically for IG.

I sure as shit don't know much about the Detroit Tigers, apparently. Had a big blank column right down the middle today.

Re: Immaculate Grid
I got two today-- Straw as LAD/SFG plus a wild-ass guess on Toby Harrah -- and then gave up.
If I stared at that grid for a week or two longer i might have gotten one or two more ... but I doubt it.

Yes, you can also use Senators for the Rangers, and the Pilots for the Brewersashie62 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2023 4:18 pmdgwphotography wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 7:15 amWhen I see the Nationals logo, I immediately think “Expos”
