Pete Koegel lived in Saugerties?
I wonder if Old Mole knew him.
I remember Don Leppert and Deacon Jones.
RIP all of them.

George Frazier - 68

Although he later was on a WS winner with the '87 Twins, prior to that he was the losing pitcher in three of the Yanx four losses to LAD in the '81 series.

He was the first (and still the only?) hurler to get tagged with three L's in one WS since Claude 'Lefty' Williams for the 1919 ChiSox. iow, Frazier was the only Honest pitcher to lose three.

Mario Guerrero, 1970s infielder (and who I thought of when Pedro Guerrero was first emerging), 73.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

I remember Dick 'The Blade" Hall - relief pitcher. He was tall and thin.
I remember him as an Oriole but he also pitched for both Pennsylvania NL teams.
RIP

From 2014, when Ivie was alive and well, a career retrospective presented with shades of gray, including its highest point.
In ’78, the Giants fought their way into a battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers for NL West supremacy. On May 28, Ivie delivered a pinch-hit grand slam at Candlestick Park off Dodgers’ hurler Don Sutton as the crowd went crazy. Ivie was surrounded by teammates as he touched home plate after the blast, which was one of four pinch-hit homers he hit that season. In many ways, it was the biggest moment of his otherwise disappointing and puzzling career.

For whatever reason, it didn’t paywall for me, and I let my U-T sub lapse around the time the Pads let Preston Gomez go.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Dennis D’Agostino, who worked under Jay Horwitz in Mets PR in the 1980s before moving on to the Knicks, has died of a heart attack at 66. He wrote what, at its time of publication (following the 1980 season), was one of the most remarkable books any Mets fan could pick up: This Date in New York Mets History. The title doesn’t begin to describe what a treasure trove of information and insight it was, Mets Internet before such a thing existed. Not just the data, but the warmth. It may have been the first time I read something by a Mets fan that spoke the Mets language — one of us when, again, those voices weren’t readily accessible unless you knew a guy.

He stayed active in sports for many years while living in Southern California. Wrote Keepers of the Game, recording the memories of the last generation of baseball beat writers from when it was still all about newspapers, plus Garden Glory, a really thoughtful and knowing oral history of the Knicks. I exchanged a couple of notes with him over the years. A very nice man.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

That book was a big part of the inspiration for the UMDB.

I was driving yesterday and listening to the Mets broadcast and Howie Rose spent a half inning singing his praises as well.

Jim Caple, longtime writer for ESPN.com, especially the highly literate Page 2 section, 61. He may have been the first online writer for a name outlet I exchanged emails with, shocking me that a writer of his stature would directly (and engagingly) respond to a reader.
