Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Not DFA'd, placed on waivers.
Waivers allows any team (in reverse order of standing) to claim the player and have him (and his remaining salary) for the rest of the year including playoffs if added before Sept 1st. That's why there's a ton of it going on this week especially with veterans in their final contract year. The Mets repotedly did the same with Carrasco.
If not claimed those players remain with their present club. They could of course release them afterward but would then be responsible for the salaries themselves.
As mentioned in another thread, waiver lists are supposed to be non-public but rarely stay that way.

It's a weird economy our system creates.
Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Dominic Leone is once a Met, twice not a Met in 2023, having been claimed off waivers from the Angels by the Mariners, who will bring him back around to Citi Field for a second consecutive weekend of Old Friend action.
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.
Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Chris Flexen, an unsuccessful Mets pitcher from 2017 to 2019 who very briefly rejoined the organization this year, is 1-6 with a 6.89 ERA in 24 games (11 starts) between the Mariners and Rockies. He has a 0.96 ERA in 9 1/3 innings at Triple-A.
Wilmer Flores, who played for the Mets from 2013 to 2018 but who never got close satisfying the "top prospect" billing, is slashing .287/.350/.527 with 20 home runs and 50 RBI in 103 games for the Giants.
Wilmer Font, who the Mets traded for partway through 2019 and who keeps getting jobs despite being worse than mediocre, is with the Blue Jays this year, but has been hurt all season and is currently on the 60-day IL.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
I think you're underselling Flores. He was dreamy.
Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Drew Gagnon, who pitched briefly for the Mets in 2018 and 2019, has found his stride in Taiwan, where he is 9-4 with a 3.39 ERA in 22 starts with the Wei Chuan Dragons this year. He's been in Taiwan since 2021 and was in Korea in 2020.
Andres Gimenez, a former top prospect who played for the club in 2020 and was involved in the deal that brought aboard Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco, is hitting .233 with 12 home runs, 50 RBI and 24 stolen bases for the Guardians this year.
Mychal Givens, who was brought on to bolster the Mets bullpen in 2022 but had a 4.79 ERA with the club, had a 11.25 ERA in 6 appearances with Baltimore before being released in mid-August. He also had a 6.60 ERA in 15 appearances in their minor league system.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Former Met Travis Blankenhorn was recently promoted to the major leagues after spending the whole year at Triple-A and currently has a .333 BA in 9 ABs for the Nationals.
Former Mets pitcher Jacob Barnes was also promoted recently, but he has a 11.25 ERA in 4 games for St. Louis.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Robert Gsellman, who spent six often underwhelming seasons with the Mets, is in Japan this season, going 3-5 with a 4.45 ERA in 13 games for the Yokohama Bay Stars and 0-3, 3.60 in 7 games for their minor league team.
Jake Hager, who played briefly for the Mets in 2021, hit .245 with 3 home runs and 30 RBI in 56 games for the Diamondbacks' Triple-A club, Reno, before being released in mid-August.
Sam Haggerty, acquired with Walker Lockett for Kevin Plawecki in 2019 and who spent 11 games with the club that year, is hitting .207 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI in 58 at-bats in a reserve role for the Mariners this year. He slashed .324/.419/.578 with 8 home runs, 29 RBI and 19 steals in 47 Triple-A games, however.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Wilmer Flores goes three for four and clouts his 22nd HR of the season to lead the Giants in their 9-8 win over the Rockies. Flores never hit more than 18 HR's in a season for the Mets.
Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
What bothers me about Flores is that he had a very pedestrian first couple of months this season. And then I dropped him from my fantasy team.
Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Billy Hamilton, who hit .045 in 22 at-bats for New York in 2020, began 2023 in the White Sox system, hitting .147 with 3 stolen bases in 75 at-bats for their Triple-A club and going hitless with 2 steals in 2 at-bats for Chicago. They released him August 22 and the Rays signed him August 30.
Brad Hand, who had a 2.70 ERA in 16 appearances for the Mets in 2021, has made 51 appearances between the Rockies and Braves, going 3-1 with a 4.63 ERA.
Eric Hanhold, who the Mets acquired for Neil Walker in 2017, has a 9.45 ERA in 45 relief appearances for the Padres' Triple-A team, El Paso, yet they keep using him. On the bright side, he's 4-2 and has 54 Ks in 46 1/3 innings.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Donnie Hart - pitcher who made a single appearance for the Mets in 2019 (in one of the few Mets games I've ever seen in-person), has a 2.81 ERA in 37 relief appearances in the Mexican League.
Geoff Hartlieb - hurler who had a 14.54 ERA in 3 appearances for New York in 2021, has a 2.25 ERA in 2 appearances for the Marlins and a 3.29 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 38.1 innings over 31 appearances for their Triple-A club this year.
Adeiny Hechavarria - reserve player who hit .204 in 142 at-bats for New York in 2019 slashed .297/.382/.538 with 7 home runs, 34 RBI and 43 hits in 38 games for the independent Long Island Ducks. The Kansas City Royals signed him in June and released him in August, after he hit .221 with 6 home runs in 36 games for their Triple-A club in Omaha.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
A low-grade teres major strain is exactly the injury that delayed (and possibly continued to undermine) the launch of Justin Verlander's Mets careeer.
Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
It helps keep things more organized.
Heath Hembree - reliever who made 15 decent appearances with New York in 2021 made a single appearance for the Rays in 2023, allowing no runs in 1 1/3 innings. He was released in late April, but signed with Detroit in early May. They then released him in early July.
Guillermo Heredia - outfielder who had 4 hits, including 2 home runs, with New York in 2020 is in Korea this year, hitting .337/.394/.483 with 11 home runs, 68 RBI and 129 hits in 99 games.
Dilson Herrera - the former top prospect who played sparingly in 2014 and 2015 has played just 9 games in the Mexican League this year, hitting .200 with 7 hits for the Piratas de Campeche.
Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Trevor Hildenberger, who made 2 appearances for the Mets in 2021, began 2023 in the Giants system, but after posting a 15.88 ERA and a 3.353 WHIP in 5 2/3 innings for their Triple-A club, he was released April 20.
Rich Hill, who was brought on to help the Mets in their failed 2021 playoff push, is 7-14 with a 5.53 ERA in 30 games (27 starts) between the Padres and Pirates this year.
Colin Holderman, a promising reliever that the Mets traded to the Pirates for Daniel Vogelbach in 2022, has a 3.48 ERA, 129 ERA+ and 9.3 K/9 ratio in 56 appearances for the Pirates this season.

Chin-lung Hu, who played briefly for the Mets in 2011, is still going. The 39-year-old is with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, hitting .275 with 2 home runs and 24 RBI in 61 games.
Travis Jankowski, who played for the Mets last season, is hitting .263 with 19 stolen bases in 105 games (247 ABs) for the Rangers this year. He also hit .300 in 10 minor league ABs.

Franklyn Kilome, who was acquired by the Mets for Asdrubal Cabrera in 2018 and who made a few appearances in 2020, began 2023 in the Nats system, but after posting a 19.64 ERA in 3 2/3 innings, was given his release in late April. He latched on with the independent Lake Country DockHounds, with whom he went 1-4 with a 8.38 ERA in 6 starts.
Adam Kolarek, who pitched briefly for the Mets in 2023, had a 9.82 ERA in 7 relief appearances for the Braves Triple-A club in Gwinnett after New York parted ways with him and Atlanta signed him.
Khalil Lee, who had a couple cups of coffee with New York in 2021 and 2022, latched on with the independent Southern Maryland Blue Crabs after the Mets released him in early May of this year. He hit .277/.401/.482 with 15 home runs, 66 RBI, 13 steals and 60 runs scored in 89 games for the Blue Crabs.
Also:
Mark Canha, who played regularly for the Mets in 2022 and 2023, has hit .296/.388/.451 with 5 home runs, 32 RBI and 48 hits in 46 games for Milwaukee since the Mets traded him to the Brewers in July.
Eduardo Escobar, who also played for New York in 2022 and 2023, is hitting .219 with just 2 home runs in 169 ABs for the Angels since the Mets traded him in late June.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Here's how some former Mets prospects that we traded away are doing:
J.T. Ginn and Adam Oller were traded to the Athletics for Chris Bassitt in 2022. Ginn, a former second round pick, was 1-3 with a 7.43 ERA in 8 starts between rookie ball and Double-A this season. Oller was 1-1 with a 10.07 ERA in 19 2/3 innings for the hapless Athletics, but was selected off waivers by Seattle in July. He is 10-7, 6.22 in 114 1/3 Triple-A innings this season.
Jose Acuna and Hector Rodriguez were traded to the Reds for Tyler Naquin and Phillip Diehl last year. 20-year-old Acuna was 7-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 22 games (19 starts) at High-A, while Rodriguez hit .293 with 16 home runs, 61 RBI, 18 stolen bases and 91 runs scored between Single-A and High-A. I'll cover Naquin in a later post; Diehl, who never played for the Mets, had a 6.89 ERA in 24 relief appearances for the Guardians' Triple-A club this season before being let go in August.
Saul Gonzalez was traded to the Cubs for Mychal Givens last season. He was 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA and 9.7 K/9 at Single-A this year.
Carson Seymour, Nick Zwack, J.D. Davis and Thomas Szapucki were sent to San Fran for Darin Ruf in 2022. Seymour went 5-3, 3.99 in 112 2/3 innings at Double-A this season, while Zwack was 5-7, 6.56 in 81 Double-A innings. I've already covered Davis and will cover Szapucki in a later post.
Franklin Sanchez and Jake Mangum were sent to the Marlins for Jeff Brigham and Elieser Hernandez. Sanchez was 3-1, 7.64 in 31 relief appearances between Single-A and High-A, while Mangum hit .298 with 8 home runs, 52 RBI and 62 runs scored at Triple-A.
We shipped Keyshawn Askew to the Rays for Brooks Raley. Askew went 9-6, 3.99 in 35 games (9 starts) between High-A and Double-A. The most impressive number: 130 Ks in 97 innings.
Other odds and ends—major leaguers who played in the Mets minor league system in 2021 and 2022
Zack Godley, who played in the Mets system in 2021 was 4-2, 5.21 in 57 innings for the A's Triple-A club and 5-3, 4.79 in 13 starts for the independent Gastonia Honey Hunters.

Re: Once a Met, Not a Met in 2023
Here's how some former Mets prospects that we traded away are doing:
Ryder Ryan was traded to the Rangers for Todd Frazier in December 2020. He finally made his big league debut this year, appearing in a single game for the Mariners, striking out 2 in 1 inning of work. He was 4-2, 3.76 in 48 appearances for the Mariners' Triple-A club, as well.
Isaiah Greene and Josh Wolf, both former second round picks, were traded with Andres Gimenez and Amed Rosario for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco in early 2021. Greene hit .180 with 3 home runs and 19 RBI in 55 games at High-A, while Wolf was 6-4, 6.11 in 45 2/3 innings between two levels. I covered Gimenez already and will cover Rosario later.
The Mets shipped Endy Rodriguez to the Pirates in exchange for Joey Lucchesi in 2021. Rodriguez hit .268 with 6 home runs and 38 RBI in 67 games at Triple-A, and has hit .211 with 3 home runs and 11 RBI for Pittsburgh this year.
The Mets sent Josh Winckowski to the Red Sox in a three-team deal that netted them Khalil Lee. Winckowski has gone 4-3 with a 2.93 ERA in 57 games (1 start) for Boston this year.
The Mets traded Pedro Quintana to the Brewers for Billy McKinney in 2021. Quintana had a 3.86 ERA in 11 2/3 innings for the DSL Brewers in 2023.
The Mets traded Will Toffey to the Giants in 2021, receiving pitcher Anthony Banda. He was in the Phillies system in '23, but was hurt all year.
