Thanks for putting this up.

I was just checking some news and a pattern was emerging.

Are we making some sort of tacit 𝐸𝑚𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑟'𝑠 𝑁𝑒𝑤 𝐶𝑙𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑠-type societal agreement to not use the word "COVID" in any more headlines?

It appears that the reason the illness at the Open is "mysterious" is because they're not doing any testing. It could be flu, it could be COVID, but nobody seems to think it's worth trying to figure it out.

As for the poll question, I had COVID once, in April 2023. I didn't really feel any symptoms, I only know I had it because I tested due to close exposure to two people who were symptomatic and tested positive.

Same, but pretty sure I was undiagnosed and superspreading early on.

Fgirl and I never got it, despite it being in my house three times (Fwife had it twice and FBoy once). Each of the three times they were symptomatically sick, though fortunately these were all post-vaccination.

At one point my wife literally coughed in my mouth, with COVID. I did not get the virus.

Fgirl believes that her and I are too Jewish for pandemic illness, we being the more Mediterranean complexioned members of our own family.

I'm in the 'never as far as I know' category.

I've never tested positive cuz I've never been tested and I've never been tested cuz I've never felt any reason to.
I called out sick one day of work in the last five years and that was half for a mild cold and half because I simply didn't feel like going in. Now that was during the Covid era (right around this time last year) so it's possible that it was Covid but, if it was, it was the wimpiest case of Covid ever so I'm sticking with my answer of never.

I'm twice. I had it last June and then just a few weeks ago. The second time was not nearly as bad as the first time although I was sad that I had to miss a John Cale concert.

I think I started with that in April of 2020 as a joke.

Right, I remembered we had it around the same time or overlapped.
Mine was first week of December. There's a thread, too lazy to hunt
it down at the present time.

Twice.

The first time in Quebec City last June. I started feeling bad in the car on the drive home, but pushed through. Got home and was running a 102 fever with a throat that hurt to swallow. Got Paxlovid the next day and was back to normal within 36 hours. Of course, Mrs Lefty, having been trapped in the car with me all that time, came down with it two days later.

The second time was probably in the Phoenix airport this March. Our flight was delayed 7 hours, and nobody was wearing masks (including us). So I came down with an extremely mild case a few days later. Just a runny nose, no temperature. I wouldn't have even tested except the missus insisted.

We're going on a trip next week and would have gotten the new booster but it won't be available until the end of the month, so our timing is bad. This time we're wearing masks at the airport and on the plane, and rolling the dice.

I got it once and had what amounted to the symptoms of a cold. My reaction to the vaccine (waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat with uncontrollable shaking) was far worse. I only tested at the time because my family had it - given my symptoms it is possible i've had it since and not even realized.

My grandson has had Covid twice as far as we know. He’s 8

My granddaughter, his sister, age 10, although sick many times, has not tested positive

It’s a weird weird world.

Attended Oktoberfest in Munich last Friday. It was absolutely, completely, jammed to the point you couldn't move. Mrs Lefty came down with COVID two days later. I am (to this point) negative. Hers is a relatively mild case, like a medium-strength cold. I credit the two liters of beer I had with my escaping unharmed.
