He's probably pretty good if they named the 'pen after him.

The rare right-handed reliever who can't hit 90 but his numbers are otherwise pretty good.

Re: Mets Claim a guy
His name is William Penn Murfee and with a name like that, he must be from Pennsylvania. (He's from Nashville.)
29 years old, has appeared in 80 big league games, all but one in relief, and all in the last two seasons with Seattle. A lifetime ERA of 2.70 over 83.1 innings. 28 walks, 92 strikeouts, allowed 8 home runs.

Let's get him some options, send him down, bring him up, send him down, bring him up...
Hope for the best. Expect the Mets.

Re: Mets Claim a guy
He's a side-armer and statcast loves his ass. He's recovering from TJ surgery, so maybe a second half arm. I love that the Mets are doing stuff like this.

With numbers like that, I wondered why they let him go.Benjamin Grimm wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 3:54 pm 29 years old, has appeared in 80 big league games, all but one in relief, and all in the last two seasons with Seattle. Here's the rest of the story (from Metsmerized):
OE - posted the same time as Seo.his season ended due to needing Tommy John surgery in July. He’s expected to be out all of 2024, but he will have five years of team control left starting next year.

Re: Mets Claim a guy
The blurb I read (CBS Sports) sez he had surgery in July and could be second-half help. Here's hoping.

This guy is gonna make you totally forget Trevor Gott.
Re: Mets Claim a guy
I hope so.
But as with Gott, you never forget your first case of hemorrhoids.

Re: Mets Claim a guy
He was really good in 2022. He had some control issues this year, but it's possible he thought he had a minor arm issue that he could pitch through and it turned out to be much worse than that. Some people take longer than others to recover fully from TJS, so I'd make no promises with this guy. But he's totally worth a waiver claim.
Re: Mets Claim a guy
Gott the Twat we call him in my house (or in my brain in my house maybe). He was personally rude to my wife on every occasion when he was pitching in AAA Syracuse and his daughter was enrolled at my wife's day care center.
Re: Mets Claim a guy
The Braves have grabbed the baton for the next leg of the Penn relays, as Atlanta claimed Murfee off waivers from the Mets yesterdoo.

Penn Murfee got non-tendered tonight by the Braves. This poor fella's been dumped three times in three weeks.

Good use of this thread. Reduce, reuse, recycle, just like these middle relievers.

Last spot on the roster, to my reckoning.

Re: Mets Claim a guy
He just turned 26. Hasn't done much in the big leagues (played in 96 games for the Pirates in 2022, hitting .206 with 11 homers in 283 plate appearances) but had what looks like a nice season in AAA (Arizona's Reno affiliate) in 2023. (124 games, .313/.431/.410 33 doubles, 3 homers and 94 runs scored).
Re: Mets Claim a guy
National League champion Arizona Diamondback Diego Castillo, that is. (One game, but still.)

I immediately thought he was a different (better) Diego Castillo.

Diego Castillo DFA’d to clear space for Sean Manaea.

Maybe they, too, realized it was the other Diego Castillo.
