It looks like everyone has played this round, so I won't worry about spoilers.

S H O R E
S N A C K
S A L T Y

At this point, I had three guesses left, and there were still four possibilities that I could think of: SASSY, SAVVY, SAGGY, and SAPPY. I didn't want to risk running out of guesses, so I went in a different direction:

V E S P A

If the V or the P had lit up orange, I would have known that it was SAVVY or SAPPY. If neither of those happened, and the S in the third position had remained grey, I would have gone with SAGGY. As it was, the third letter was confirmed to be an S, so SASSY it was.

I would never do that. I think Hard Wordle (whcih I am not part of but abide by those rules) makes you keep the correct guesses where they are.

I'm a believer in playing hunches. I only had the A and the Y after three but I went with the sassiest answer.

I could have gotten the same result by using PAVES I guess.

This was my second Bust in 240 games played and both times I was tripped up by a word with a triple consonant that I failed recognize as a possibility thinking, more subconsciously than out loud but the result was the same, that that letter has been played so is out of the picture.

The first one, some 165 games ago, was NANNY, and now, showing that I failed to learn from a past mistake, SASSY

i did a STARE | SALON | SAPPY | SAGGY | SASSY progression.

it got me thinking, for all y'all hard mode players, do you go through the trouble of thinking out the possible words that might fit at a given guess, and play the guess that clears the most of those guesses, or the one the feels the most right?

me, i think i tend to go with the first word that comes to mind that seems like it has letters with a high likelihood of being in other words, without identifying those words first.

i'm learning that that second guess should probably include an L and an N, if i can make it fit. at least that what my post-gaming on wordlebot leads me to believe.... (today it said the better 2nd play was SAUNA)

Yay! Open discussion is better than coded scorekeeping.

T A S E R
P A S H A
G A S S Y
S A S S Y

P A S H A was perhaps too exotic a choice for my second guess. I immediately felt strongly after guess one that the word ended in a vowel, but I should have tried an adjective ending in a Y, which would have been much more common than a noun ending in a second A.

with all the scores in, SASSY (5.23) appears to have been our third-hardest word of all the scored rounds, after NANNY (5.67) and JAZZY (5.50) from june's haymaker opening rounds.

SASSY joins NANNY as the only words to have busted three players. JAZZY busted two. The only other word to have pulled that feat is july's CRONE, with its seemingly benign 4.38 average score.

I was cruising until I wasn't. Got a par today to at least get back on track but I think now it'll be too little, too late, to take the round that is
