Guess that Met
Guess that Met
Post a poem, post a picture, post a description, post a trivia question—but the goal is to give a hint—in some form—then have your fellow Mets fans Guess that Met!
Here's a few to get us started (I originally wrote these when I was a teenager so bear with me):
1. I was drafted by Boston in '92
And as a minor leaguer I did fine
Time went by and before I knew
I was a rookie at 29
Who am I?
2. I was originally drafted by the A’s
But for them I would never play
Once I threw nine wild pitches in 76 frames
But the next year I threw none in 27 games
My career as a Met was not that great
The games I played for them totaled eight
As a batter I had 10 career hits
And my Mets ERA was 7.36.
3. Many disliked me when I got traded
I came to the Mets before they were hated
I played 3rd Base in the 70s
It was anything but heavenly
Guess my name
to claim
your fame
4. I played for 2 ML teams prior to the Mets
I played for 4 ML teams after the Mets
I came to bat 100 times & struck out 42 times.
I even batted in the 1, 2 & 5 spots despite my inability to get wood.
Who am I?
5. I came with another player in a deal from an out of division team.
We both played big roles in that 1st great season we spent in orange & blue.
I did my best to be a 'rock' for the team
Who am I?

Re: Guess that Met
Number 5 is clearly George Stone, who came to the Mets from Atlanta when Atlanta was an out-of-division team.
Either that, or it's Fred Flintstone.

Some of the entries in our old song parody contests could be re-posted here because they didn't mention the player's name.

Number one sounds like Hall-of-Famer and original Mets coach Rogers Hornsby, but could probably be referring to a few others.
Re: Guess that Met
3. Rich Becker.
Re: Guess that Met
Rogers Hornsby is correct, though Red Kress would also work. I'll assume DocTee meant Rich Becker for #5, because that is correct as well. I've added hints to the two from the original post that haven't been updated yet.
