One Upon a Time in Northern Ireland
Found and watched Ep 1 last night. Will definitely hang with it.

'The Troubles' were certainly in the news on a regular basis on this side of the pond during the '70s, and I particularly remember my mother saddened by the whole
thing because she knew that Belfast was the birthplace of one set of her grandparents (Protestants who emigrated to the Boston area as young adults in 1905).
So while I was aware of the overall situation, I was young then so not exactly hanging on every turn of one of those 'over there' problems an ocean away.
This book: SAY NOTHING: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland — Patrick Radden Keefe; which I called my top read of 2019, really opened my
eyes to the depth and breadth of hatred that could exist not just within a single land but inside the boundaries of a single city.

I love Lasso’s positivity and decency. Maybe if you give it a few more episodes. The show changes a bit as it progresses.

My biggest problem with this series? ... that I have trouble understanding what's being said!

But once I cut through the accents it's good stuff.
The (now middle aged) son in Episode 2 of the mother of ten who was abducted and murdered by the IRA was the case which served as the basis for the book I referenced above.

I've read on more than one occasion the idea that Norther nIrish English is perhaps the most authentic modern English spoken, as if the shortest line from the Early Modern English of the Tudors to any contemporary dialect goes right to Belfast.

I don't know if that's true, but I used to do a terrific Gerry Adams imitation. Probably wasn't a good idea to take it out during my brief visit to the North, though.

We gave it a season, and the last few episodes were a slog. I found him incredibly annoying. Your mileage obviously varies.

Alone on History Channel, ten people dropped in a remote location, stay the longest and you get $500k , 10 seasons already, with some specials , really enjoy it, only you and 10 items you bring with you( sleeping bag, knife etc )and cameras . Many have tried similar concepts but Alone stands alone among them all

I watch Alone. It's become a little predictable and some scenes move too slowly (I always skip through the wating-for-the rescue-boat-to-arrive). but every once in a while it delivers real emotion. Also fun to watch the inventiveness

We've watched the first three seasons of Alone so far, on Hulu.

At the end of season two, they had a "reunion episode" where a host interviews all of the contestants. I was stunned to see that the host was a very familiar face, TV's Kevin Burkhardt! He also hosted the third season reunion episode. After watching two of those, we determined that we're no longer going to make that mistake. While it's nice to see Kevin, the reunion show is generally pretty dull.

I didn’t realize it was on Hulu , I've been using the absolutely awful History Channel app , thanks , I don't bother with the reunion stuff, didn’t know it was Kevin .....

You'd think by now survival experts would learn that drinking directly from the stream or lake would lead to inevitable tapout

Yeah I was surprised to see KB on there, too. He didn't seem as comfortable as he does in a FOX sports studio IMO.

One thing I wish that show would do is at the beginning of each season, introduce each contestant and let them list their ten items and why they brought them. Even if most have paracord and some kinda axe, I would love to get a rundown for each. Like if someone didn't bring a gill net but brought two extra food provisions, I wanna know stuff like that.

Homeland (Showtime)

I never watched this when it was on, by m but I've been watching it for tvr last month, nearly done with season 2 of 8. Claire Danes leads an excellent cast. Anyway of like me you're into CIA espionage stuff then you'll like it

Catching up now on For All Mankind, having just finished season 2. By the time I get through season 3 I should be able to watch the last part of season 4 as it debuts. Also looking forward to Fargo season 5, after a (what I thought) lackluster season 4 that I gave up on. Seasons 1-3 of that show are all tremendous.

I finally replaced my elderly, and ridiculously slow, Apple mini this past weekend (saved $100 for Black Friday plus they gave me $110 for a trade-in) and was rewarded with a free three month subscription to AppleTV.
So I'm diving into FOR ALL MANKIND based on the recommendations here. Watched 1/1 tonight.

We've been watching BABYLON BERLIN, in which political, social and sexual hijinks beset a morphine-dependent cop and the city as a whole in 1929. Big cast, nice look, lots going on.

By the last season it had become one of the stupidest shows ever.
