The death of Dino Danelli just last December robbed the 'The Rascals' [first release in 1966] of their first original member and that likely
handed the reigning champs of longevity title over to Sabbath.

Of the 24 men who have traveled to the moon, nine remain alive including four of the twelve who walked on the surface. Seven of those nine are in their 90s
and none are younger than 88.
Followed just days later (11/7) by Frank Borman - 95
Commander of Apollo 8, he was accompanied by Jim Lovell and Bill Anders on the first ever mission to the moon.
'8' journeyed to the moon and then circled it to test the 'slingshot' effect of using the moon's gravity to direct the ship back towards earth.
Would have been a bummer, both for the possibility of future missions and certainly to the crew itself, if they found they couldn't pull if off.

So, as Agatha Christie might say, and then there were eight.

They had announced her joining Jimmy in in-home hospice care just a few days ago. He's been there for months but is still kicking.
Probably wouldn't surprise anyone if he goes quickly now.

Very sad. I had a grassroots role for Carter in 1976

Actually sat in on cabinet meetings when she was the first lady. I don't know if she was the first to do that. I suspect Eleanor Roosevelt might have slipped in once or twice.

The only longer-lived US first lady was Bess Truman.

Marty Krofft, of Sid & Marty Krofft, who gave us The Banana Splits, H.R. Pufnstuff and other big-headed puppet-themed TV shows. Me, I liked the Splits theme song but was otherwise turned off by the fare, deeming it alternatively lame or creepy or both. Now The Pink Panther cartoons, those I could go for back then.

Apart from weird Saturday-morning big-head puppet fare, Sid & Marty also gave us evening goofiness such as The Donnie and Marie Show and The Brady Bunch Hour and other weird variety shows.

They really knew how sell the world candy-coated marshmallows. Note how the teen co-stars of the puppets were often kids from successful sixties sitcoms. Lidsville had Eddie Munster, Sigmund & the Seamonsters had Jodie Davis. H.R Puffestuff had Jack Wild who was a successful kid actor in Britain. They had their formula down.

I remember Lidsville as the earliest airing of the Saturday morning cartoons, and being fascinated at how creepy it was.

You think that's a funeral President Trump gets to go to?

I'm figuring it's about 35% likelihood. He seems to be polling very poorly with dead people.

'No, I'm not going to the funeral. He wasn't a good diplomat, I prefer my diplomats to be alive.'

This is, of course, right after someone explains to him who Henry Kissinger was.

So today we acknowledge the passing of two noteworthy people. One was a gifted master of his craft who, even if you didn't always support his methods, unequivocally left the world a better place for his being there. The other was Henry Kissinger.

I'll go with the latter. Being a Yankee fan is just icing on the cake.

We have three things in common, none of which had to do with his career or his politics. And certainly not his baseball team.

Amazing that he lived as long as he did (66?) with the lifestyle he led. A stunning vocalist, nonetheless.
