Guess that Met
Re: Guess that Met
I imagine, then, we speak of Tommy Herr.
Re: Guess that Met
Herr is correct, well done! Hints added below.
1. Who am I?
Hint: Was an answer to a previous question in this thread.
Hint: Struck out once in Mets career
Hint: Played in the Mets system in 2002 and 2003
2. For the Mets, I pitched five seasons
And why I didn't pitch much
I don't know the reasons
In total I appeared in 48 games for the team
I was unimpressive, or so it would seem
Following the Mets, I played for LA
And in five games with them, I did okay
Who am I?
This one isn't that hard, don't get "stuck" on it.
Hint: Pitched for the Mets starting in 1972.
Hint: Made 15 starts for the Mets in 1975.
3. I could run like a deer
and played with out fear.
I came from a city
known for it's misery
Dude, if the Mets were more hip
I could be a great skip.
Who am I?
Hint: Last played for the Mets in 1984.

4. I started my career in my hometown
but riding the bench got me down.
Even the thrill of a World Series
couldn't keep me from feeling dreary.
Then one day as happens in sport
they told me I was traded to New York.
I got my chance to be a regular at last,
and I showed some pop but my BA crashed.
They said .236 just wasn't fine
so back I was riding the pine.
My claim to fame that year
was anything but dear.
the fans were often heard to shout
the bum leads the team in strikeouts.
Who am I?
Hint: Was a 1960s Met.

5. It's a long way from Omaha
to coaching with my goombah.
The year I was there was special for me
'cause now I'll always be let in somewhere for free

Three appears to be John Stearns, but I didn't know Denver was known for its misery. I thought it was known for its funky airport terminal design.

Stearns is correct, well done! I assumed the misery reference had something to do with the book/film Misery, in which Denver I believe played a small role.

Duh. I read the clues so fast, saw "famous for Amos" and guessed Otis. If I read it closer, I woulda noticed that he played in 1970, so it couldn't have been Amos.

There's only one Met enshrined in Cooperstown who has a Met doppelganger in name only -- Pedro Martinez. But the two Pedro Martinez Mets did not play for the Mets in the same decade. Or century.

I see where you're going, but we're not quite there. Note 'Omaha' and 'coaching' in the poem. The individual might or might not have been from Omaha and he might or might not have coached for New York.

The traded for a restauranteur and being seen across town hints for the current #4 point towards Ken Singleton, but he was far from being the first big bat the Mets’ farm ever produced.

Re: Guess that Met
4 is DJ Dozier
Re: Guess that Met
Dozier is correct, well done!
1. My career [was] just [20] games
over 2 seasons, not the same.
The roster was filled with others the same
not position or talent, by that I mean name.
Who am I?

Hint: Was a pitcher
Hint: Debuted for the Mets in 2007
Hint: Shared first name with three other Mets
2. I pitched but a year in a Mets uniform
And I did not do well while it was worn
That season was also the extent of my career
Indeed it lasted just that one single year
Seaver had over 20 wins that season
But me, I got less than 10 for some reason
You could say my career could have been greater
But hey, at least I allowed just eight Taters
Who am I?
Hint: Had 5-13 record in sole season with NY.
3. Back home I was good, or so it was said
the Metropolitans signed me after I fled.
I liked to throw junk
and got in a funk
[Then] my career [was] sunk.

Hint: From Cuba.
Who am I?
4. I wasn't yellow, wasn't white, but indeed was brown
the things I said that 1 year made many fans frown.
The team was bad that year, in fact it stunk
just like me, but many thought I was drunk.
Some say the worst had to be Fran
but it's my career that went in the can.
